The present form or first form of verb is most commonly used in the simple present or present indefinite tense or in
the imperative form (instructional form).
For example:
1. I eat apples. (simple present / present indefinite)
2. He goes to school. (simple present / present indefinite)
3. You do your homework. (simple present / present indefinite)
4. She listens to music. (simple present / present indefinite)
5. Be quiet. (imperative)
2. Past form:
The past form or second form of verb is used in the simple past or past indefinite tense, we use it when we talk
about something that has happened before but has now finished.
For example:
Regular verb:
If the verb in the past form and past participle form ends with "d” or “ed” then the verb is regular.
Irregular verbs:
If we cannot add “d” or “ed” to the base form then the verb is irregular.
The past participle or third form of verb is used to create a sentence in the present perfect or past perfect tense.
Examples:
1. He had made the dish. (past perfect)
2. She has fallen in school. (present perfect)
3. They have done their work. (present perfect)
4. Infinitive form:
In the infinitive form the word “to” will come before the present or base form.
Examples:
1. to catch (infinitive form)
2. to watch (infinitive form)
3. to swim (infinitive form)
For example:
1. He is doing his work. (present continuous)
2. They are working hard. (present continuous)
3. The dog is biting the boy. (present continuous)
4. They were walking on the road. (past continuous)
5. He was shouting in the class. . (past continuous)
