A. Concept Notes
These are some of the environmental issues and concerns here in the Philippines:

 Deforestation – the destruction of big areas of forest.


 Flashfloods – a sudden flood of great volume, usually caused by heavy rains.
 Illegal mining – the extraction of valuable minerals or geological materials from earth.
 Soil Erosion– happens when soil and rock moved from one place to another by wind, water, gravity.
 Coral Reef Degradation – destructions of coral reefs.
 Pollution– alteration of the physical, chemical and biological properties of water, air and/or land resources.
 Cyanide fishing  - is a method of collecting live fish mainly for use in aquariums, which involves spraying a
sodium cyanide mixture into the desired fish's habitat in order to stun the fish.
 Pesticide drift - refers to the unintentional diffusion of pesticides and the potential negative effects
of pesticide application
 Climate Change - a long-term change in the earth's climate, especially a change due to an increase in the
average atmospheric temperature
