Verbs with Prepositions
Many prepositions accompany verbs when used in a
sentence.

She listens to the radio a lot.

He thanked me for the flowers.


Verbs with for

He apologised for being late.

I applied for the job but I didn't get it.

*when asking someone to perform an action,
the preposition “to” is used.

The word “while” is used to talk about two


situations that happen at the same time.
While
Use the word “while” in a sentence.
Be as detailed as possible
use past simple, then past continuous

More on “while”
Sometimes, “while” can be used at the beggining of the
sentence.
While there is life, there is hope.
While the weather is nice, we’ll have class outdoors
While I’m in vacation, I’ll continue to sleep late.
These sentences can be re-assembled to place “while” in
the middle.
There is hope while there is life.
We’ll have class outdoors while the weather is nice.
I’ll sleep late while I’m in vacation
Move the word “while” to the beginning of the sentence

"An error occurred while copying the Windows installation files"

“He scratched an itch while walking into the kitchen"

"I opened my mind to new ideas while at university"

"She was hypersensitive to sounds while trying to concentrate"

“I met my husband while I was studying in Berlin.”

The word “when” can sometimes be used to replace the
word “while”, but it’s slightly different.

When is more specific to a period of time.

It’s often used to recall memories

“I remember when I was 5 years old”

“Do you remember when was the last time you went to
the beach?”
