INTRODUCTION

In this era, learning management systems are now installed in the majority of higher

education institutions in Philippines. Learning Management System are intended to support

teaching and learning activities. They consist of various features that enable faculty

members to share learning materials as well as providing interaction with their students.

According to Donna J. Abernathy (2009) “Online learning is not the next big thing, it is

the now big thing.” There's no time like the present. E-Learning is happening right now.

It's important to keep an eye on e-Learning trends and emerging technology. However, you

must also live in the moment and design for modern learners.

Academy for Christian Education (ACE) is located at Queen’s Row Central Bacoor

City, Cavite and was built in year 2001 and founded by Mrs. Estrelita H. Santiago. The

school offers education for the Senior High School or K-12.

Academy for Christian Education encountered some problems, one of which is that

the students were not informed about the upcoming events and gatherings of the school.

This is mainly due to the manual way of disseminating of information using invitations,

bulletin boards and verbal announcements of the teachers for the parents and their students.

Another problem that this organization encountered is the teacher are having difficulties in

storing data’s or information’s of their students in their specific classes or subjects they

handled every school year. They are having difficulties because they used manual storing

or keeping of records with the use of book records and filing cabinets. These problems may

lead to the lack of enthusiasm and motivation of the members of the organization. Thus the

authors want to resolve the issues by developing a web-based learning management system.

This study was developed to addressed the problems of the organization. This web-

based learning management system aimed to improve their teaching way by the used of

modern technology. With this study, the teachers can add quizzes, assignments, activities

and learning material’s or modules so the students can answered all activities, submit their

assignments, download learning modules and can used it anytime and anywhere. This will

help the students and teachers to provide a new way of teaching for the new age of learners.

And also will provide a good and responsive educational site among the organization and

will be very helpful for the students in reaching their goals.

Statement of the Problem

Generally, this research aims to determine the needs of our client and answer the

following questions:

1. How will the problems of Academy for Christian Education be identified?

2. How will the gathered data been analyzed?

3. How will the system be designed depending on the needs of the client?

4. How will the system be developed?

5. How will the system be evaluated?

Theoretical Framework

The Theoretical Framework is part of the study that shows the concept of the

proposed system through World Wide Web in a way that anyone can easily understand.

The proposed system contains five modules: Account Module, Bulletin Module, Learning

Module, Messaging Module and Record Module (see Figure 1).

The system has three levels of access, the admin, teachers and the students. The

Admin manages the whole record of the system and teacher handles delivery of learning

content and resources to students on the system, while the student can only view and

answers activities coming from teachers.

Theoretical Framework illustrates the Account Module, in this module the Admin

manages the whole record of accounts of the users including adding, editing and deleting

accounts of the teachers and students. Only the teachers and students can sign in and sign

up for his or her account.

The Bulletin Module, in this module teacher post announcements about the events

on their different classes and will notify the students to see the upcoming events.
The Learning Module, in this module all downloadable materials for the student

are found in this module. The teacher can create quizzes and post assignments that will

answer by their students, in assignment the student upload his file to check or evaluate by

his/ her teacher.

The Messaging Module, serve as communication pathway for the teachers and

students. The teacher can message their student, vice versa.

The last module is called Record Module, this module will keep all the information

input on the system. In Admin side, it can view all the records on the system the accounts

and list of all students and teachers, it can also view all downloadable materials and

uploaded files by the users. In teacher side, it can add personalize class, to easy manage

the lessons and activities for their different handled students with different subjects offered.

The teacher can also see the records uploaded by the students. In student side it can only

see their progress record like their scores in quizzes and assignments. The student is also

view their list of classmates on their class.

Based Learning Management System of Academy for
Christian Education (ACE)
Objectives of the Study

Generally, this online learning management system aims to manage and deliver the

learning content and resources to students online and as well as the following:

1. Identify the problems encountered by observing the current state of the

organization and by conducting interviews to the principal and staffs regarding

the problems that they may encounter.

2. Analyze the identified problems and formulate the best solution.

3. Design a system using the Fourth Generation Technique Methodology (4GT).

4. Develop a web-based system using Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) as the

programming language of the system, XAMPP version 3.2.2 for the apache

server and MySQL for the database.

5. Evaluate the performance of the system using Web Content Accessibility

Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).

Significance of the Study

Client. The client is the main reason why this research is conducted to provide a new way

in their teaching skills and build a new age of learners. This research will help the client to

manage and upgrade their business.

Students. This study will help the students to enhance their learning skills and managing

their learning materials or activities.

Teachers. This study will help the teacher to organize the learning materials/activities for

their students and keep an eye to their track records.

Researchers. This study will help the researchers to enhance the ability on how to create

an understandable web based system in an easy way. This will serve to the proponents as

a challenge to do a better web based system.

Future Researchers. This study gives knowledge to the researcher on how to create a web

based system in understandable way. This will serve as a fresh ground for the researcher

whose study will be related in the field of Information Technology.

Time and Place of the study

The Fourth Generation Technique (4GT) methodology was used for the

development of the system. Interviews and observations were conducted in the client.

Requirements gathering was the first level of the 4GT that was done in the last second

week of April 2018 to the last week of May 2018. The researchers conducted an actual

interview to the officer in charge of the department. Design Strategy phase started in the

first week of June 2018 to October 2018. Pertaining to the development of the system

including designing and coding, that started in the first week of June 2018 to February 2018

conducted at the library and house of the researchers.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

This study focused on the development of Online Learning Management System

for the senior high or K-12 students of Academy for Christian Education (ACE) that would

help to improve a new way in their teaching skills and build a new age of learners. This

study will help the client to manage and upgrade their business. The system allowed the

administrator to control all the modules like account module, bulletin module, learning

module, messaging module and record module. The teacher and students could only access

the account module to register his/her account. In the bulletin module the teacher can post
announcement for their coming events that will notify the students of each class or sections

to view their teacher’s announcements. While in learning module the teacher can post or

upload learning materials that acts as reviewer to their class and create quizzes for their

students. On the students side the learning materials or files upload by their teacher will

become downloadable, the students can answer quizzes and show result after taking

examination. In messaging module the teacher can message students and vice versa.

However, this kind of study had limitation. The Online Learning Management

System will not have SMS notification.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The chapter presents the review of related literature and studies that provided

proper guidelines to create and formulate the requirements needed to start the project.

Moreover, the chapter was designed to identify related research to set the current research

within a conceptual and oriented context that supports the present study.

E-School

The influences of information technology on diverse aspects of life in modern

society have been observed by many scholars. These influences, however, are not as

obvious in K–12 curriculum and instruction as they are in other aspects of modern life. The

goal of this study was to explain the role of modern information technology in K–12

classrooms that allows educators to design curriculum and enhance instruction in a manner

that reflects the emerging technology-rich sociocultural context. Qualitative data from

multiple sources were analyzed. Two samples of research published in peer-reviewed

journals were synthesized and one sample of K–12 educators who work in northern New

England and were peer-nominated for their interest in using technology in their work was

interviewed. The research questions explored the influence of information technology on

throughout modern society and the curriculum and instruction in K–12 classrooms that

reflect the sociocultural context. Technology acceptance, a measure of users' intention to

continue to use information technology, is used to articulate a substantive theory for K–12

curriculum and instruction that reflects the capacity of modern information technology and

the sociocultural context of that technology. The theory generated by this study indicates
several lines of research that will lead to further understanding of technology acceptance

in K–12 classrooms, including validation of technology acceptance the further

deconstruction of technology acceptance in K–12 settings. The theory also indicates

several actions that educators can take to create classrooms that are hypothesized to

increase technology acceptance in K–12 settings. These actions include ensuring that

curriculum and instruction practices are adapted to make use of evolving technology and

ensuring that evolving technology is incorporated into curriculum and instruction.

(Ackerman, 2009)

E-Learning

According to Algahtani (2011), the computer-based learning comprises the use of

a full range of hardware and software generally that are available for the use of Information

and Communication Technology and also each component can be used in either of two

ways: computer managed instruction and computer-assisted-learning. In computer

assisted- learning, to him, computers are used instead of the traditional methods by

providing interactive software as a support tool within the class or as a tool for self-learning

outside the class. In the computer-managed instruction, however, computers are employed

for the purpose of storing and retrieving information to aid in the management of education.

Learning Management System

Learning management system (LMS) is an online platform that enables the

delivery of materials, resources, tools, and activities to students both in and out of the

classroom environment. It allows teachers to offer tailored instruction that can be accessed

by students anytime, anywhere without geographic constraints. With unique learning and

design features, learning management systems can be implemented for a range of students
at every grade level. Most learning management systems contain a standard set of tools

that are used to facilitate learning and discussion in an online environment. Some tools,

such as a threaded discussion forum, are used to foster communication and collaborative

learning. Other tools, such as assessments and online grade books, are used to increase

teacher productivity and track student performance while ensuring that the course is

meeting curricular objectives (k-12blueprint, 2014).

Internet
Internet in simple terms is a network of the interlinked computer networking

worldwide, which is accessible to the general public. These interconnected computers work

by transmitting data through a special type of packet switching which is known as the IP

or the internet protocol.

Internet is such a huge network of several different interlinked networks relating to

the business, government, academic, and even smaller domestic networks, therefore

internet is known as the network of all the other networks. These networks enable the

internet to be used for various important functions which include the several means of

communications like the file transfer, the online chat and even the sharing of the documents

and web sites on the WWW, or the World Wide Web. (Beng, et.al., 2015).

World Wide Web

As stated by Mitchell (2017), the term World Wide Web (WWW) refers to the

collection of public Web sites connected to the Internet worldwide, together with

the client devices such as computers and cell phones that access its content. For many years

it has become known simply as "the Web." All major Web sites have adjusted their content

design and development approach to accommodate the rapidly increasing fraction of the
population accessing the Web from small-screen phones instead of large screen desktop

and laptop computers.

Privacy and anonymity on the Internet are an increasingly important issue on the

Web as significant amounts of personal information including a person's search history and

browsing patterns are routinely captured (often for targeted advertising purposes) along

with some geolocation information. Anonymous Web proxy services attempt to provide

online users an extra level of privacy by re-routing their browsing through third-party Web

servers.

Websites continue to be accessed by their domain names and extensions. While

"dot-com" domains remain the most popular, numerous others can now be registered

including ".info" and ".biz" domains. Competition among Web browsers continues to be

strong as IE and Firefox continue to enjoy large followings, Google has established its

Chrome browser as a market contender, and Apple continues to advance the Safari browser.

HTML5 re-established HTML as a modern Web technology after having stagnated for

many years. Similarly, the performance was enhanced.

Information System

As stated by Zwass (2009), Information system is an integrated set of components

for collecting, storing, and processing data and for providing information, knowledge, and

digital products. Business firms and other organizations rely on information systems to

carry out and manage their operations, interact with their customers and suppliers, and

compete in the marketplace. Information systems are used to run inter organizational

supply chains and electronic markets. For instance, corporations use information systems

to process financial accounts, to manage their human resources, and to reach their potential
customers with online promotions. Many major companies are built entirely around

information systems. These include eBay, a largely auction marketplace; Amazon, an

expanding electronic mall and provider of cloud computing services; Alibaba, a business-

to-business e-marketplace; and Google, a search engine company that derives most of its

revenue from keyword advertising on Internet searches. Governments deploy information

systems to provide services cost-effectively to citizens. Digital goods such as electronic

books, video products, and software and online services, such as gaming and social

networking, are delivered with information systems. Individuals rely on information

systems, generally Internet-based, for conducting much of their personal lives: for

socializing, study, shopping, banking, and entertainment.

Programming Language

As stated by Stroustrup (2013), Programming language is also called computer

language, a coded language used by programmers is to write instructions that a computer

can understand to do what the programmer wants. The most basic called low-level

computer language that uses binary code which a computer can run execute very fast

without using any translator or interpreter program, but tedious and complex. The high-

level language such as Visual Studio, C, Java are much simpler to use but need to use

another program to convert the high-level code into the machine code. There are dozens of

programming languages and new ones are being continuously developed.

PHP

On the word of Fralex (2010), hypertext Pre-Processor or PHP is an open source,

server-side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages.

Moreover, Php is a server side coding and compatible with servers like Apache and II .php,

php3, and .phtml are the common extension of PHP files.

PHP code can be inserted in to the HTML of a Web page. Before the page is sent

to a user that has requested, the Web server calls PHP to interpret and perform the operation

called for in the PHP script. This allows web developer to create dynamic content that

interact s with databases. PHP applications are normally found on Linux servers and in

conjunction with MySQL databases. Php provides those servers with functionality similar

to that provide to the Windows platform by Active Server Pages technology. PHP can

perform any task that any CGI program can do, but its strength lies in its compatibility with

many types of databases.

JavaScript
As stated by Kourbatov (2011), is a scripting designed primarily for adding

interactivity to web pages and creating web application. The language was first

implemented by Netscape Communication Corp. in Netscape Navigator 2 beta in year

1995. Java runs on visitor’s computer and does not require constant download website.

JavaScript is often used to create polls and quizzes. JavaScript supports is built right into

all the major web browser including Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.

In relation to the study, JavaScript is the scripting language used to make interactive

effects of the system.

JQuery

According to Nicholas Johnson (2014), JQuery is a library written in JavaScript

which is primarily about DOM manipulation. It lets you find parts of a web page and make

changes to them with very little code. It's wildly popular and is used extensively across the

Internet. It also forms the basis of other larger frameworks.JQuery is the Write Less, Do

More JavaScript framework that makes web development fast and fun. It's an elegant, clean

library of code, written in pure JavaScript that lets you accomplish a whole raft of web

related tasks easily and quickly in a fraction of the time it would take using traditional

techniques.

Ajax

In keeping with Callum Macrae (2019), one of jQuery’s most used features is its

suite of AJAX functions. They offer some significant improvements over the native

JavaScript AJAX features, as they are a lot easier to use. AJAX is the act of making an

HTTP request from JavaScript without having to reload the page; you could think of it as

an inline HTTP request. Sometimes, however, it isn’t worth loading the entire jQuery

library to send a few requests and nothing else, or it doesn’t provide enough control. It’s

also useful to know how jQuery does it, as it can help you when you’re trying to debug

your code. jQuery’s $.ajax function is also a massive 379 lines long at the time of writing.

HTML

As stated by Jemma (2013), HTML is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup

Language. It is a markup language used for creating Web pages. A markup language then

is a set of interpretation to text that describes how it is to be structured, laid out or formatted.
HTML provides the structure, layout and format of a web page. Furthermore,

HTML instructs the web browser it display web pages.

Cascading Style Sheet

As stated by Jemma (2013), Cascading Style Sheets allows to control the layout of

your HTML document. CSS is a simple way to add styles such as font, colors or spacing.

CSS is usually a text file that is separate from you HTML file. CSS is used to define how

the content and web page will look.

XAMMP
In relation to Milkoluk (2013), stands for Cross-Platform (X), Apache (A), MySQL

(M), PHP (P), and Perl (P). This is a simple, lightweight Apache distribution that makes

extremely easy for developers to create a local web server for testing purpose. Everything

you need to set up a web server- server application Apache, database MySQL, and scripting

language PHP. This include in a simple extractable file. XAMMP, makes transitioning

from a local test server to a live server extremely easy as well.

Database Management

A database is a collection of information that is organized so that it can be easily

accessed, managed and updated. Data is organized into rows, columns and tables, and it is

indexed to make it easier to find relevant information. Data gets updated, expanded and

deleted as new information is added. Databases process workloads to create and update

themselves, querying the data they contain and running applications against it. Computer

databases typically contain aggregations of data records or files, such as sales transactions,

product catalogs and inventories, and customer profiles.

Typically, a database manager provides users with the ability to control read/write access,

specify report generation and analyze usage. Some databases offer ACID (atomicity,

consistency, isolation and durability) compliance to guarantee that data is consistent and

that transactions are complete. Databases are prevalent in large mainframe systems, but are

also present in smaller distributed workstations and midrange systems, such as IBM's

AS/400 and personal computers. (Susan Fogarty, Craig Stedman, et al. 2019).

MySQL

MySQL is a Relational Database Management System (“RDBMS”). This was used

by most modern websites and web-based services as a convenient and fast-access storage

and retrieval solution for large volumes of data. A simple example of items which might

be stored in a MySQL database would be a site-registered user’s name with associated

password (encrypted for security), the user registration date, and number of times visited,

etc. MySQL can also be accessed using many tools.

This could be easily communicated with via PHP (PHP Hypertext Preprocessor), a

scripting language whose primary focus is to manipulate HTML for a webpage on the

server before this was delivered to a client’s machine. A user can submit queries to a

database via PHP, allowing insertion, retrieval and manipulation of information into/from

the database (Yacub, 2015).

Sublime Code Editor

In the word of Skinner (2008), is a sophisticated text editor for code, mark up and

prose. This is a cross platform text and source code editor with a Python application

programming interface (API). This natively supports many programming languages and
markup languages, and functionality can be extended by users with plug-in, typically

community-built and maintained under free-software licenses.

Evaluation
Evaluation will be the key to effective and efficient implementation and use of

information technology in education management. As hardware, software and the needs

of users develop and change, such evaluation will need to be both proactive and dynamic

in that it must continually provide information concerning how the systems need to be

modified to allow the potential to be realized fully. Dynamic evaluation can then be used

to inform the system design, training, support and documentation to ensure end-user

acceptance of the systems and provide administration support and information relevant

to enhanced decision-making processes (Anonymous, 2016).

World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

Conferring to Parsons and Oja (2011), is an industry consortium which seeks to

promote standards for the evolution of the web and interoperability between WWW

products by producing specifications and reference software. Although W3c is funded by

industrial members, this is vendor-neutral and its products are freely available to all.

WCAG 2.0

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 covers a wide range of

recommendations for making Web content more accessible. Following these guidelines

will make content accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities, including

blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive

limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity and combinations of

these. Following these guidelines will also often make your Web content more usable to

users in general.

WCAG 2.0 establishes a set of Success Criteria to define conformance to the

WCAG 2.0 Guidelines. A Success Criterion is a testable statement that will be either true

or false when applied to specific Web content. "Understanding WCAG 2.0" provides

detailed information about each Success Criterion, including its intent, the key terms that

are used in the Success Criterion, and how the Success Criteria in WCAG 2.0 help people

with different types of disabilities. This document also provides examples of Web content

that meet the success criterion using various Web technologies (for instance, HTML, CSS,

XML), and common examples of Web content that does not meet the success criterion.

WCAG 2.0 is a stable, referenceable technical standard. This has 12 guidelines that

are organized under 4 principles: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

The first principle was perceivable; this was where the information and user

interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive. It provide

text alternatives for non-text content, provide captions and other alternatives for

multimedia, create content that can be presented in different ways, including by assistive

technologies, without losing meaning and make it easier for users to see and hear content.

The second principle was operable, this was the user interface components and

navigation must be operable. This makes all functionality available from a keyboard, gives

users enough time to read and use content, did not use content that can cause seizures and

help users navigate and find content.

The third principle was understandable, in which the information and the operation

of user interface must be understandable. This makes text readable and understandable,
makes content appear and operate in predictable ways, and help users avoid and correct

mistakes.

The last principle was robust, in which the content must be robust enough that this

could be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive

technologies. This maximizes the compatibility with current and future user tools (W3,

2019).

Integrated Website for the Marvelous Faith Academy in Bacoor City, Cavite.

In the line of Andalan and Gonzales (2014), Integrated website for the Marvelous Faith

Academy aimed to develop and design a website that would allow the students of the

institution to have an easy access on the academic records. The website would help the

students to become aware of their academic grades and school’s upcoming program and

activities. The website would provide an open line communication between the teachers

and parents of the students. It would also provide a rapid access to specific knowledge and

information. This application would be useful for the instructors and students of the

Marvelous Faith Academy. The system used extreme prototyping methodology as an

approach to systems development. The researchers used Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP),

MySQL, Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JQuery,

Javascript, Adobe Flash, Cross Apache and Perl (XAMPP) in developing the website.

Integrated Website for the Marvelous Faith Academy was similar to the system

because the system aimed to develop and design a web based that would allow the students

of the school to be aware of their school’s upcoming programs, activities and upcoming

events. The researchers also use PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor as their programming

language, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and MySQL for the development of the study.

Web Based Student Information Management System. According to Dacamay

and Go (2013), the system provided a simple interface for maintenance of student

information. It could be used by educational institutes or colleges to maintain the records

of students easily. The creation and management of accurate, up-to-date information

regarding a students’ academic career is critically important in the university as well as

colleges. Student information system deals with all kind of student details, academic

related reports, college details, course details, curriculum, batch details, placement details

and other resource related details too. It tracks all the details of a student from the day one

to the end of the course which could be used for all reporting purpose, tracking of

attendance, progress in the course, completed semesters, years, coming semester year

curriculum details, exam details, project or any other assignment details, final exam result

and all these will be available through a secure, online interface embedded in the college’s

website.

The study was related to the present study since it used record management to

maintain the records of the students. The researchers also use PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor

as their programming language, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and MySQL for the

development of the study.

St. Michael School of Cavite Portal. In the line of Flores and Tutor (2013) this

software was developed for the benefits of the school, students and teachers of the said

school. The system provides functionality that allows viewing school information,

announcements and activities of the school and grades of students. It would also feature

private message, which will serve as the communication tool of the school community. The

system provides account for teachers to post grades of students and administration, to

manage, update announcements, monitor and approved messages. Further, the portal will

surely help St. Michael School of Cavite in promoting the school.

The system was developed through the use of various development tools. HTML

for coding. PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) for the programming language. My SQL 5.0.7

for the system database, Apache 2.2.17 for the server of the system, XAMPP 2.5 which
was used to install Apache, And various Scripting languages for the system design and

Microsoft Word for the documentation of the study.

The system was evaluated with the used of WCAG 2.0 and based on the given

criteria: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust of the system and acceptance

criteria. The St. Michael School of Cavite Portal get a grand mean “Excellent” which

means that the system satisfied the user after the testing.

St. Michael School of Cavite Portal is related to the proposed system in viewing of

information, announcements, update of school activities, managing records and also in

terms of software functionality like messaging tool that serves as private communication

pathways of teachers and the faculty.

Proposed Information System of FJ Divine Academy. As stated of Reyes and

Santos (2015) the proposed information system would benefit the school Administrator in

a sense that reports could be presented fast, reliable and organized. The registrar would be

provided quick access on student’s grade so he or she would not have a hard time in

browsing student’s grades records manually. The clinic staff and librarian would be given

a nice insight in the records on the medicine items and books respectively since it would

be presented in an orderly manner and would give those updates for every transaction. They

used fourth generation technique methodology.

The study was related to the system because it used to disseminate information, had

a browsing function and also used a fourth generation technique to develop the whole

system.
Clinic Web-based Information System. Conferring to Evangelista and Lanopa,

(2011), the system helped a lot to De La Salle Clinic. It improves the circulation,

manipulation, and distribution of data records within the three outposts of the clinic. It was

also a great solution to the most common problems occurring in the clinic.

The system provided a portal where students, staff, and faculty members could

update medical information and request physical exam online. The system also allowed

nurses and doctors to view and retrieve record easily. Replenishment of medicine was

monitored automatically and accurately. Each student, staff, and personnel in charge on the

clinic has an account to access the website.

The reports were generated by the system automatically. Keeping of data records

were saved in a secured database. Loss of important records would be avoided using the

system. “Clinic Web-based Information System” has similar functions to the system in a

way that it provided security account for the admin to have a full access to the website. The

system also generates reports and keep information secured also it used PHP as

programming language in developed the system.

English-Grammar-Guide: Android Application. As stated by Aguilar and Perez

(2017), the study was conducted to develop a mobile application for android users entitled,

“English Grammar Guide: Android application”. The application was developed for the

purpose of applying new technique in teaching English grammar rules and supporting E-

learning as an innovative supplementary method of teaching but not a direct substitute of

formal education. It aimed to deliver substantial information about the topic pertaining to

grammar specifically the parts of speech.

Lectures were divided into eight modules and each of them contained multiple

lessons that were classified and sorted sequentially. Each lesson contains a brief discussion

about the topic, supporting examples, and/or tables and images. Quizzes can be accessed

online using the application. It was a multiple choice – type of quiz with four choices. Each

quiz has ten questions which were taken randomly from the database. After the user had

Using a web-based program to increase parental involvement. Conferring to del

Valle, Grace B., Ed.D. (2011) Parental involvement is an important factor for improving

academic performance. Communication between the school and parents constitutes one of

the basic types of parental involvement. Schools struggle to find effective ways to

communicate effectively with parents and are recently using technology to facilitate this

communication. This qualitative ethnographic case study explored the perceptions of

teachers and administrators on whether Connects, a web-based system with a parent portal

component, had an effect on increasing parental involvement in an urban school district

with a high number of economically disadvantaged families. Data were collected from

three sources: Connects’ usage data, e-interviews with teachers and administrators, and site

observations. This study could aid in identifying the specific problems of using technology

to enhance parental involvement among an economically disadvantaged population. The

study focused on three pilot schools using the system; results may identify possible ways

technology can improve parent-school partnerships.

Online Event Management System for Philippine Red Cross Makati Branch.

Conferring to Clemente, et al., (2011) having an online event management system in an

organization had made the task of managing events easy and successful. Gone are the days

of long registration lines and paper forms to sign up. Online registration eliminated

unnecessary paperwork. It also improved marketing capabilities and maximized

participation by allowing attendees to sign up where it is most convenient for them from

any Internet-enabled computer. As these benefits are realized, it became apparent that they

just offer much more than registration. The real benefits are in the many ways that the

business processes are streamlined and improved through digitalization.

The main objective of this project was to develop an online event management

system for the different services that the Philippine Red Cross – Makati Branch offers. This

study aimed to facilitate electronic registration for a database record. The system generated

reports easily through the report generation module and allocated volunteers in each event

through a human resource management module.

This study is relevant to the propose system because it has same features and

function in storing data’s into the database, generating reports and handled or posting

upcoming events.

Based Smart Learning and Attendance Management System". Is an online study material,

notices academic calendar and online reminder of examination. The purpose of the study

is to help the institute to move forward quickly, fulfil their vision and accomplish their

goals, E-way. The study aimed to implement Android based application for attendance

management system for advancement of institution and educational system. With this

system teacher can upload notes, time tables, assignment on server and broadcast it to the

registered mobile numbers so that it is easily accessible to student by their own smart

phone.

With the use of this system students can learn anywhere, anytime and at their own

convenience. This system gives timely updates of students as well as their parents.

Attendance marking and report generation becomes easy. Less chances of malfunctioning.

The study is related to the proposed system because it was an e-learning system that

gives information and learning modules to the students anytime and anywhere.

E-Learning Benefits and Applications. As stated by Nischal Guragain, (2016) the

goal of this thesis is to study the background and popularity of e-learning, cost factors

associated with it and why it is beneficial to universities and companies. Because the main

idea is to study the effective way of delivering the required materials to the intended

students and to the trainees, I have studied some of the e-learning environments

implemented in Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and followed them

while publishing learning materials in the edX platform.

The popularity of the Internet and Internet-based applications have grown fast in

recent times. It has affected the ways in which we conduct our day-to-day activities. People

rely more and more on the Internet to find the information they are looking for or even to

learn new subjects. When we talk about the Internet and learning there is a word

“elearning” that comes to our mind. E-learning is a very board term which generally covers

a wide range of teaching and learning activity via electronic media such as computers or

web based platforms. E-learning is not necessarily distance learning and may also occur in

the face-to-face classes.

This study is related to the proposed system because it was an e-learning system

that gives information and learning modules to the students anytime and anywhere.

Managing information with the use of internet to make fast and accurate information’s that

gives to the learners.

Advantages and disadvantages of E-learning systems. In keeping with Nischal

Guragain, (2016) as the world is moving towards the digital age and more and more

universities are trying to maximize the use of technology in education, one must consider

both the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. Although the use of technology in the

field of education has revolutionized the way we learn there are still some downsides of

relying completely on technology to learn. E-learning systems are the storehouses of

information, trainings and knowledge but at the same time they could be the storehouses

of misinformation, poorly guided training or bad knowledge.

E-learning has many advantages. With the combination of a well-organised e-

learning system and a highly motivated student, one can achieve great success in a short

period of time.
The study was related to the present study since it was all about E learning system.

The advantages and disadvantages of the E learning trends. This study will helps to the

propose system to develop a Learning Management System with higher flexibility and have

reliable managing of learning contents.

A Proposed Model of E-Learning Management System Using Semantic Web

Technology. According to Rashid et. al (2010) today’s World Wide Web (WWW) known

as Web 2.0 includes social networking sites, blogs, wikis, and video sharing sites, hosted

services, web applications, and so on. It also includes E-learning Management system. It

is a process in which we use the electronic medium to access the defined set of applications.

Research works in the field of E-Learning are represented by a broad spectrum of

applications, ranged from virtual classrooms to remote courses or distance learning.

Because of a lot of limitations using web 2.0 for creating E-learning management system,

now-a-days we use Web 3.0 which is known as Semantic web that recovers the limitations

of Web 2.0. In this paper we represent a proposed model of “E-learning Management

system using Semantic web technologies”, where course syllabus, teaching methods,

learning activities and learning styles are included and it will be more suitable in different

learning institutions. We hope that it will provide a great feedback from both teachers and

students.

This study is related to proposed system in terms of providing related useful

information for searching and sequencing learning resources with the help of the internet.

Web Based PhD Thesis Management information System for Tripoli Faculty

of Computer Technology in Libya. (WBPTMS). In the word of Salaheddin Sayeh,

(2011) with the advancement of information communication technology in developed

country, education field should take advantage to upgrade their learning and management

techniques. Students should be allowed to learn anytime, anywhere and at their own place.

However administration and lecture should be able to manage their work more effective

and flexible. Many studies have recognized the fact that, efficient management of

education administration process information system the potential to save the precious time

and facilitate these administrative task. This study aims to develop web based PhD’s thesis

management information system to automatically ensure the PhD students’ thesis

information management in the Faculty of Technology in Tripoli. The web based PhD’s

thesis management information system is often used in educational organizations due to its

effectiveness in facilitating and enhancing the monitoring of the supervision and manage

of thesis’s and project paper.

This study is related to proposed system in terms of efficient managing of all

records and advanced monitoring or searching of data’s on the system.

Student Information Management System. Conferring to the study of Manisha

K, (2016) Student Information Management System is mainly designed to satisfy the

student related data needs. SIMS is used to manage any student related information within

a particular school or college or a university. This is mainly used by students in-order to

view and access the information regarding college which comprises of notifications,

placement details, exam timetables etc. Any college related information such as events,

notifications, updating or deleting of student records could be done easily and securely

using this web based online system. SIMS is a repository of data collection, data

processing, data analysis, data reporting. Admin provides secured logins to each and every
section such as placement section, exam section, faculty and also to each and every

individual student.

This study is related to proposed system because it has four modules(4) that has the

same function in the proposed system, The four modules are Admin module that manages

all the information related to the students and the faculty, Student module that plays a vital

role in every education system, Exam-section module that offers creation of quizzes for the

students and the faculty module that can update any department events, news regarding the

department by signing in to his account with his teacher id as user-name.

Managing and Planning an Event for Case Company X. As stated by Palo,

(2016).The thesis was written for Case Company X, which is an international and sales-

focused accelerator for innovative software companies. The company invests seed capital

in their portfolio companies and deliver concrete results for their sales and international

growth. In addition, Case Company X organizes events for startup founders. The thesis

would discuss how to plan and manage an event for Case Company X.

The objective of the thesis is to clarify the process of organizing a successful event

for Case Company X. The knowledge based would discuss event management and the

event planning process. Data was collected using feedback questionnaires. The methods

used are qualitative and quantitative and a thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.

The empirical study implementation discusses the steps to planning a Case Company X

event called Situation Room.

The study was related to the proposed system because it could set, organized, plan

and manage upcoming events on the system.

Perceptions of Risk At Meetings And Conferences: An Event Planner’s

Perspective. Rendering to the study of Robson, (2009) this study is an exploration of the

socio-demographic influences of event planners on risk perception and how these support

the current risk assessment and risk management strategies. A model was developed that

outlined the manner in which experience, education, gender and country of residence

influenced the risk concepts of “dread” and “familiarity”. These concepts then lead to risk

perception that, in turn, influenced risk assessment and risk management. In order to test

this model, a mixed-methods, two stage approach was used (Creswell, 2003; Veal, 2006).

In-depth interviews were used to develop a definition of risk specific to the event industry,

followed by an on-line survey to measure perceptions of various risk elements and gather

socio-demographic information.

The study was related to the present study because the system had announcements

and events creators that manage without conflict on the other event created.

A Web Based Content Management System. In keeping with Joshi, (2011) the

information for a department of a university on a website tends to be general in nature and

often unchanging. If the department or the faculty wish to change, add to, or personalize

this information, they need to request the website administrators to make this change on

their behalf. This process besides being time consuming is inefficient and may not address

the needs of the department accurately. This thesis addresses this issue by the development

of a web based content management system. This system provides a simple user friendly

interface where the faculty can enter/maintain their personal information, manage

information on their classes, upload images, send emails to students registered in a class

and interact with students on a discussion board for each class. This web system is designed
to be used by the department of Africana Studies at San Diego State University, but with

minor changes, it can be used by any department of any university.

The study was related to the present study since it used record management to

maintain the records of the students and also have uploading of different types or formats

of documents to be given for the students. The researchers also use PHP: Hypertext

Preprocessor as their programming language, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery and

MySQL for the development of the study.

Student Academic Information System: An Introduction To Relational

Database And Http Server. According to Winnefred, (2013) this research study has

developed an introduction to Academic Information System to relational Database and

HTTP server. In considering the design of a web-driven relational Database Management

System, it is obvious that RDBMS success to a very large extent depends on the level of

data structure. While structure itself depends on the level of reliability, which can be

achieved through the kind of tables and web interface to be rendered and the requirements

needed. It is my convention that a closer look at this project work give insight and vital

information to any interested person who wish to know the requirement for developing a

HTTP and a relational database management system server to effectively implement an

academic information system design has demonstrated its HTML web pages integration

via PHP programming by demystifying and defining what it takes to implement an Apache

HTTP server, a MYSQL relational Database Management system and a PHP scripting

engine. The study was related to the present study since it gives secure and reliable

information’s for the system users. The researchers also uses PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor

as their programming language, HTML and MySQL for the development of the study.

MATERIALS AND METHOD

Materials

The researchers used two laptops with Intel (R) Core™ i5-4210U @ 1.7 GHz with

Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz as processor, 4.00 GB installed memory and 64-bit Operating

System.

The researchers used PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) as their programming

language and web content which is HTML5 (Hypertext Mark-up Language, CSS

(Cascading Style Sheets) and JavaScript for building the whole system. They also used

XAMPP version 3.2.2 for the apache server and MySQL for the database of the system.

They make used of Bootstrap for the system design and Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended

for editing of images. They also used Internet in gathering information about the topic.

Lastly, the researchers used Microsoft Word for document purposes.

Method

The Fourth Generation Technique (4GT) (see Figure2) is based on NPL that is Non-

Procedural Language techniques. Depending upon the specifications made the 4GT move

towards uses various tools for the automatic generation of source codes. It is the very

important tool which makes use of the non-procedural language for Report generation,

Database query, Manipulation of data, Interaction of screen, Definition, Generation of

code, Spread Sheet capabilities, High level graphical capacity etc.

The Fourth Generation Technique (4GT) is usually successful in implementing

smaller applications as we can easily switch from the requirement analysis phase to the

implementation phase. Prototypes of any applications can be easily developed with the help
of the 4GT approach. This prototype helps the clients to give a rough idea of how the

system will look when it is done. The 4GT model is very useful approach in small projects

but it is not a dominant approach for large software development.

Figure 2. 4GT (Fourth Generation Technique Methodology)

Requirements Gathering

The 4GT begins with Requirement Gathering, This phase was where the

researchers interviewed the client about specific requirements that the client wanted to see

in the system which includes the necessary information that would be needed in creating

the system.

In this process the researchers gathered all the information through Interview with

Mr. Engel Matthew Aranda the Principal of Academy for Christian Education at Queen’s

Row Central, City of Bacoor, Cavite to know the problems that they commonly

encountered in school. The client explained how the system could be beneficial, and define

what would be the possible needed features.

Design Strategy

In this phase, it allowed the user to show a monitor screen displayed on how the

program runs with the environment.

In this phase, analyzations of the gathered information were done. Researchers used

Data Flow Diagram (see Appendix Figure 5) to design the system, Hierarchical Input

Process Output Chart (see Appendix Figure 6) to breakdown the structured of the system

and Entity Relationship Diagram (see Appendix Figure 7) to design the database. After

analyzed the study would proceeded in creating the whole design and interface of the

system.

Implementation of 4GL

In this phase, it allowed the user to deal with the changeover to a new or improved

system. To transform a Fourth Generation Language (4GL), implementation into a product,

the developer conduct through testing, develop meaningful documentation, and performed
all other solution integration activities. In this phase, the coding of the whole system was

done and all the problems meet had a solution.

In this phase, they used MySQL as database and Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) as

Programming language to develop the whole system.

Testing

The last phase was the Testing. In this phase, it allowed the user to fully test and

evaluate the system. In this phase all the functionality needed by the client were met.

Sampling Technique

A purposive sample is a non-probability sample that is selected based on

characteristics of a population and the objective of the study. Purposive sampling is also

known as judgmental, selective, or subjective sampling.

Statistical Treatment of Data

1. Weighted Mean

A weighted mean is a kind of average. Instead of each data point

contributing equally to the final mean, some data points contribute more weight

than others. If all weights are equal, then the weights are equal, then the weighted

mean equals the arithmetic mean.

∑ wfx
Formula: W M =
N
Where:

WM = weighted mean

f = frequency

x = weight

N= total number of respondent

2. Likert Scale

The Five-Point Likert Scale

5 4.20 – 5.00 Excellent

4 3.40 – 4.19 Very Satisfactory

3 2.60 – 3.39 Satisfactory
