How do pandemics such as Covid 19 impact consumer behavior?

The Covid-19 pandemic has been bringing vast changes in the world market, living condition,
health and even to consumer behavior.

Behavior always changes. However, the changes in the behavior of consumers from pandemic
also made vast changes to the business world. These changes include the following:

 Shift To Shopping Online 


 Spending More Time On Leisure Activities 
 Value-Based Purchasing 
When it comes in the shift to shopping online, people prefer on line shopping platforms for
different goods, foods and medical supplies. Their shopping for goods has been extended to
availing other services like deliveries and online selling. Since the pandemic started, online
shopping has been the means of the people to shop because it doesn’t only give them
convenience but also prevents the risk of exposing their health from the virus outside. Even
when the world had little by little adapted to the new changes and the living condition is
gradually going back to normal, people still prefer to shift in online shopping because the
platforms provide more items to choose from.
The behavior also changed in spending more time on leisure activities. During the pandemic,
most particularly during the lockdown period, there has been an increase in the changing habits.
People prefer to watch television, check and try new mobile applications, try digital health
awareness, trying new things like planting, learning a new skill and creating new hobbies which
they don’t usually do before pandemic.
Value-Based Purchasing made the people become more sensitive on the prices of the items
that they purchase. This is because of the instability of employment and financial insecurity.
People are unsure of what will happen next. Hence, people tend to monitor their budget more.
This is also the reason why people try new brands that are cheaper.
All these are the impact of the Covid-19 to consumer behavior which seem to become their
habit ever since the pandemic. It all started with finding ways to cope from the changes until
they found convenience and learn new things until they were able to adapt and continuously
living with it and becomes our behavior.
