Module 7: Learning and Self Development
Training and Development
Job roles require formal training qualifications either because of
legislative requirements or to meet the requirements of specific
employers.
Benefits of developing skills through formal training: (i) increased
career development opportunities, (ii) personal growth (building
network, improved time management and negotiation skills, etc.), and
(iii) increased knowledge and better understanding of the industry
and industry-related problems.
Methods used by the organizations to review skills and knowledge: (i)
training need analysis, (ii) skills need analysis, and (iii) performance
appraisals.
Training needs analysis is the first stage in training process and
involves a procedure to determine whether training will indeed address
the problem, which has been identified.

Module 7: Learning and Self Development

Training and Development

Skill needs analysis finds answer to the following questions: ‘what

knowledge is needed to perform the task?’ and ‘what kinds of
training are available?’
Performance analysis is used to identify which employees need the
training. Evaluations are carried out at a number of levels and involve
a variety of factors. Feedbacks from stakeholders are also considered.
Feedback is an essential mean to understand and identify the right
trainings and knowledge needed for the required job function.
