Biga Elementary school promotes the DRRM National Program which serves as the
national guide on how sustainable development ca be achieved through inclusive growth while
building the adaptive capacities of school; increasing the resilience of vulnerable components;
and optimizing disaster mitigation opportunities with the end in view of promoting students’
welfare and security towards gender-responsive and rights-based sustainable development. It
outlines the activities aimed at strengthening the capacity of the national government and the
local government units (LGUs) together with partner stakeholders, to build the disaster resilience
of communities and to institutionalize arrangements and measures for reducing disaster risks,
including projected climate risks and enhancing disaster preparedness and response
capabilities at all levels.
The School plan highlights, among others, the importance of mainstream School disaster
risk reduction and management (SDRRM) and climate change adaptation (CCA) in the
development processes such as policy formulation School development planning, budgeting and
governance particularly in the area of School Resilient Environment. It also highlights the need
for policies, structures, coordination mechanisms and programs with continuing program
appropriation on SDRRM levels.
The Mobilization plan adheres to the principles of School governance within the context
of Disaster informed school and calamity/Disaster ready. It is about partnerships and working
together – engaging the participation of School and Student down to their family and promote,
(a) disaster prevention and mitigation; (b) disaster preparedness; (c) disaster response; and (d)
disaster recovery and Rehabilitation.
Over the years, people learned that disaster can be prevented with proper knowledge and
preparation. This concept gave rise to Disaster Risk Reduction Management which aims to
remove or minimize hazardous incidences, lessen unnecessary actions, and disseminate relevant
information. But unfortunately, life-threatening accidents arising from untoward incidents are as
common now as it was before. A good reason for this could be the fact that not all are well-
informed and some may still be stuck with notion that disasters are the wrath of some gods. The
most vulnerable to the said disasters are the children and the elderly for they are prone to
miscalculations and sadly, their survival rate is left to chance.
Being the seed, our dear cherished students that will continue the next generation, it is a
must for pupils to learn by heart the proper and logical way of acting when faced with disasters.
This could not only assure their own safety but could also help their families be well-informed.
Children early in their elementary years should be subjected to regular safety drills in order to
make surviving disasters second nature.
This report is made in order to keep track of the development of disaster risk reduction in
Tiaong National High School through participating in hazard detection and removal activities
and regular earthquake drills. This report also notes the difficulties met in the said endeavors and
the proposed ways to alleviate their chances in the future.
