Methodologies of Community Action Description

1. Profile It is a social method which involves building

up a picture of the nature, needs and
resources of a locality or community, and
with the active participation of its members.
It matters to know who are living in the
particular community to assess what type of
community it is to create and implement an
action plan to address the issues.
2. Partnership A process of identifying and locating
different actors and players within a
community who share a common interest,
purpose and goals.
3. Mobilization A process of getting resources from the
resource provider, using different
mechanism, to implement an organization’s
predetermined goals.
4. Social Is about people coming together to help
improve their lives and solve. The problems
that are important in their communities.
5. Needs To assess the resources and skills to exist
among the people or communities with
which a project plans for work.
6. Leadership It is a process by which a community
undertakes to reach a given socio-economic

and charting a course of action to resolve
those problems.
7. Evaluation Used to assess the performance of projects,
institutions and programme set up by
governments, international organizations
and NGO’s. Its goal is to improve current
and future management of outputs,
outcomes and impact.
Guide Questions:

1. What is the primary focus of community Action?

 Community Action is about putting communities at the heart of their
own local services. Involving communities in the design and delivery of
services can help to achieve a number of objectives, including: Building
community and social capacity – helping the community to share
knowledge, skills and ideas. And also identifying the obstacles that are
hindering the pace of development, and then with the help of the
community and its participation finding a probable solution. Also,
making each one from the community responsible enough to tackle the
uncertain situations or problems in the future.

2. Explain the importance of these approaches in attaining the goal of the

community.

Profile - The purpose of a community profile is to decide which household

livelihood strategies to investigate in more detail, decide which local institutions
might be important for household livelihood strategies and need to be investigated in
more depth, and ultimately, design and implement more effective and sustainable
projects.

Partnership -   Leverage the strengths of each partner and apply it strategically to

the issue at hand. It might take more work, and it might take longer, but
strong partnerships build the relationships, shared understanding, and collective
focus to make lasting progress.

Mobilization - Empowers individuals and groups to take some kind of action to

facilitate change. Part of the process includes mobilizing necessary resources,
disseminating information, generating support, and fostering cooperation across
public and private sectors in the community.

Social - Gets people moving. It makes them feel strong, and makes them less
likely to submit meekly to the rules and demands of those in power.

Needs - Identifies the strengths and resources available in the community to

meet the needs of children, youth, and families. The assessment focuses on the
capabilities of the community, including its citizens, agencies, and organizations.

Leadership - Leadership development enhances leaders. People have the

capacity to collectively chart their future by creating, developing and building
their community. The most effective community development requires building
relationships among people.

Evaluation - can help communities recognize their own abilities to bring about

change, and then to act on that knowledge. The community is in a partnership with
the evaluation team, with both working together to understand and improve the
initiative.
