Rather Than Indonesian Drama

The ‘Hallyu’ or Korean Wave from South Korea reflects the trend of the
regionalization of cultural industries in East Asia. However, the recent Korean Wave can
be called as cultural globalization because Korean cultural products have been
successfully entering into advanced countries that dominating global pop culture markets.
One of the most popular products from South Korea is the Korean Drama production or
people actually called as KDrama. South Korea began exports their Korean Tv dramas to
the world in the 1990s to Taiwan and China. Since that the KDrama has rapidly grown,
bulging out its domestic market, spreading through Asia and entering European and
American markets. In early 2000s Indonesia became the next destination of Korean Wave
especially Korean Drama to spread its charms. South Korean TV dramas and movies are
parts of Indonesian youth daily lives. Nowadays, Korean TV drama is the most
interesting shows by Indonesian young people, families, and communities as a show that
is entertaining as well as bringing the phenomenon of the growing interest in Korean
culture products both from fashion and lifestyle, to the values of life which is increasingly
varied. There are several reasons why Indonesian youth prefer KDrama (Korean Drama)
rather than Indonesian drama itself.

The first reason that Korean Dramas are in great demand is because of the
interesting storylines and being able to attract the audience to feel the emotions in the
drama. This intriguing story can manifest in many ways. Like a heart-wrenching love
story, or a family story that is close to everyday life that makes us inspired by the life
journey of the character in the drama. We can see from the quality of drama production
and the quality of the script that is able to provide a clearer and has a very creative
storyline, and it is making Korean drama viewers enjoy the drama. In every Korean
Drama series, the storyline is more interesting and not long-winded so that is the main
reason for Indonesians people, one of which is that young people are very interested in
watching KDrama series. In fact, the themes raised in Korean dramas are not only about
love stories, but also about social issues, strong pressures related to education, stories of
friendship, and also stories about families are interesting treats from South Korean
dramas. Even though there are
several scenes that look cliché, or the background for the story is the same, the depiction
and story development still seems unique and different from Indonesian dramas.

Second reason, in KDrama they have an excellent acting from the actors and
attractive. It is not surprising for KDrama lovers that the factor of actors and actress who
shows a good performance is one of the reasons why Korean dramas are so loved by a
young people. Although some K-Drama actors or actresses are singers who are members
of boy groups or girl groups, the actors and actress also have talent in acting and try their
best to bring out their best in acting in the world of roles. Even for extras, they have very
capable acting skills. They have very supportive acting and the way the actors and
actresses portray the characters in the drama are very fitting, making the audience like
KDrama even more. Apart from having an interesting storyline, there are one more thing
that appeal to Korean dramas, such as their attractive faces plus their fashionable clothing
styles. Usually there are several characters in Korean dramas who have a distinctive style
of dress that seems suitable for him to wear. This is also an impact on young people in
choosing their own style standards and can be an inspiration for Indonesian youths to use
interestingly mixed and matched clothes.

Third, attractive and beautifully edited cinematography, well as the small

Korean tv dramas have become increasingly popular and have attracted the
attention of many people, including a young people. This phenomenon can be seen in the
development of Indonesian youth people into adulthood, especially in teenager. The
enthusiasm of the Korean drama was able to lead the audience to learn everything about
Korea (Korean wave). Korean Drama lovers not only like the characters played by the
actors in the drama, but also Korean Drama fans pay very close attention to the details of
the quality of the drama in various ways and have an attractive appeal that is very
comfortable to watch. Not only that, Korean dramas also always provide interesting and
unpredictable stories. This is also a challenge for Korean Drama lovers so that they can
attract the attention of the audience to think about how the story will end.
