PREFACE
The project report is an internal and a basic part of concepts and theory gained during the
pursuance of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. The submission of project
is a part of the 4th semester curriculum of 2 years full time course of MBA of North Eastern
Regional Institute of Management (NERIM) affiliate to Dibrugarh University and approved by
AICTE.

The project work as a part of 4th semester provides enough opportunities to gather vast
information, knowledge and skill from actual work situation about human resource problem in
practical field. The theoretical knowledge acquired in classroom has been complemented by the
practical training experience at ASSAM POWER DISTRIBUTION COMPANY LIMITED
(APDCL).

The study helped me to know about various interpersonal factors and its impacts within ASSAM
POWER DISTRIBUTION COMPANY LIMITED (APDCL).
DECLARATION
I, Shashank Shukla, hereby declare that this project entitled “Impact of Interpersonal
Relationship at Workplace with reference to APDCL, Bijulee Bhawan, Guwahati” has been
prepared by me during the year 2020 and is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements

This project report has not been submitted earlier for the award of any other Degree/ Diploma
from Dibrugarh University or any other university.

Institutions, with whose guidance and support this project has come into existence. She has

Objective of the study

Primary objective:
To study the impact of Interpersonal Relationship at Workplace with reference to
APDCL
Secondary objectives:

1. To find out the level of interpersonal relationship in the organization.


2. To understand which factors most influence employees’ interpersonal relationship at the
workplace.
3. To find out the impact of positive and negative interpersonal relationship at workplace.

Research Methodology: Descriptive Research

 Research instrument: Structured questionnaire


 Sampling method
 Sample Unit: Employees of Assam Power Distribution
Company Limited (APDCL), Bijulee Bhawan, Guwahati
 Sampling technique: Convenience Sampling
 Sampling Frame: Since Convenience Sampling
method is used, this is a non-probabilistic sampling
technique, so no sampling frame isrequired.
 Sample Size: 38
 Sampling Instrument: Personally administered
questionnaire.
 Area: Assam Power Distribution Company Liited
(APDCL), Bijulee Bhawan, Guwahati

Sources of data: There are two sources of data collection:-


Sources of Primary Data: Employees working in Assam Power Distribution
Company Limited (APDCL)

Sources of Secondary Data: Various official and online documents and


sources

Analysis technique: The various tools used in the research are pie-charts and tables with the
help of Microsoft Excel.

Major findings:

 It was found that 8% of the respondents feel that the level of interpersonal relationship is
very high in APDCL, Guwahati, 63% believe it to be high while 29% feel it to be neutral.
No body found it to be low or below.

 It was found that, in order to build a positive relation with a co-worker 24% of the
respondents felt that he/she has to be approachable, 13% felt that he/she has to be
performance oriented, 26% felt that he/she should be understanding and 37% felt that
he/she should be a team player.

 It was found that 26% of the respondents feel that poor work ethics lead to a negative
relation with colleagues, 21% feel being self centered lead to it, 13% feel taking credit for
others’ work lead to it while 40% feel that pessimistic attitude leads to negative relation
with co-workers.

 It was found that all the respondents feel that they have a positive interpersonal
relationship at the workplace. Further 24% of them feel that the most positive impact that
it has had on them at workplace is increased job satisfaction, 54% feel that job
involvement is the most positive impact, 11% each feel improved performance and
organizational commitment to be it.
