ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who has
been supporting me through the course of the project. I am extremely grateful to my
institute, BITS Pilani for offering me the Study Oriented Project course.
I would also like to thank Prof. Sandip Deshmukh, the faculty in-charge, for providing
timely suggestions and assistance in keeping our progress on schedule, and making
all possible arrangements to reduce the difficulties in our path.
I would also like to thank everyone else who was directly or indirectly involved to
provide me with this opportunity.

INTRODUCTION
I have been working on 2 separate projects
1. The first one deals with an apparatus with a camera attached at the top (on a
horizontal sliding rig) facing downwards in order to capture images of the
subject pieces placed underneath and to calculate the dimensions of those
pieces using machine learning algorithms
2. The second one is a rather confidential one and deals with the design and
fabrication of a cylindrical object
I’ll be discussing both of them, but the first one in greater detail
6
Project I
The apparatus is as shown in the image
A. Camera holder
This part has 4 sub parts which form an assembly
1. Holder
7
2. Holder Cap
3. Knob
8
4. Mount
Assembly
9
I have also created the drawings for each part of the CAD designs for easier
fabrication
here is an image of the drawing assembly
each drawing has the scale and units witten at the bottom left corner and
shows the subject in isometric, trimetics and various orthogonal views
the subjects have measurements written on them and these are written in an
exhaustive manner
10
B. Fastener Pieces CAD Modelling
I made CAD models of different kinds of fasters, in order to gather data for the
development of the algorithm which identifies the subject.
11
Project II
I was given the task of designing a rig which was intended accommodate some
circuit boards, on the inner side
2. Longerons (x8)
12
3. Rings (x2)
Assembly
13
I have created the Drawings for each part of the rig inorder to send for fabrication
here is an image of the Assembly drawing
each drawing has the scale and units witten at the bottom left corner and shows the
subject in isometric, trimetics and various orthogonal views
the subjects have measurements written on them and these are written in an
exhaustive manner
14
Conclusion
The experience I gained in the process of designing these products is enormous and
would help me in further developing my skills as an engineer.
The Camera rig has been completed and will be used for capturing images and
processing them later.
The blueprints of the camera rig can be easily accessed and it can be recreated using
3D printing
The CAD profiles of the fasteners can be used to feed data to the machine learning
algorithm in order to train the model.
The Rig of the second project is a work in progress and more details would be added
in the final report

Glossary
1. Longerons - a longeron and stringer is the load-bearing component of a
framework.
2. Rig - A fixed structure to incorporate components.
3. Mount - A support for a device.
