COUNSELLING GUIDANCE ACTIVITIES

Activities designed to provide solutions to problems that often occur to students.

This activity selected by the counseling based on the perceived problem should be solved. To

select appropriate activities, counselor should first define the problem by reviewing the

background of students and the types of problems. To determining an activity that

is appropriate, for me it should be categorized into three parts, academic, personal, and career.

Examples of activities that can be done by counselor is as motivation camp to increase student

motivation, leadership camp, career exhibition and many more.

SELF DEVELOPMENT/ PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

According to Wikipedia, Personal development refers to activities that improve self-

knowledge and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and employability,

enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations. The concept is

not limited to self-development but includes formal and informal activities for developing others,

in roles such as teacher, guide, counselor, manager, coach, or mentor. Finally, as personal

development takes place in the context of institutions, it refers to the methods, programs, tools,

techniques, and assessment systems that support human development at the individual level in

organizations.

BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM

Background of students in the focus of this study is on the students who live in rural

areas, Primary school students who mostly stayed away from school and had problems to

get to school at the right time. The Students who lack learning facilities at home. had

parents who worked as farmers and peasants. Have no fixed income every month. Have an

average number of children.

The example of problems that  arising from the background of students is less focused in

their studies and have poor mental level and it is because they have lack of learning

facilities at home and  transportation from home to school. The transportation problems force

student to walk from their home to school especially for those who live far from school. And
this will affected their learning because they will arrive late to school and missed a lot of

activities.

Students in schools face continuous changes and challenges. Major changes caused by

divorce, remarriage, moving, bullying, drug/physical/mental abuse, foster care, and unsupervised

homes can have a large impact on the youth. These major changes as well as minor changes

have increased the stress that our young people must learn to deal with. Because of this, many

students do not come to school ready to learn. Basic resiliency and problem solving skills are

often missing because parents lack time, commitment, or understanding of the importance of

these skills. Many parents are unable to provide for basic needs and parenting that is needed, so,

many children lack the knowledge and skills to deal effectively with the stressors in their lives.

IMPROVING SCHOOL SUCCESS.

Motivation camp

Motivational camps are being implemented in schools for students as a program to

raise motivation to encourage students to aim for excellence in learning. These camps are

run to benefit students by raising their enthusiasm for learning. This

program also gives students confidence. With the confidence they will be strong and difficult

to be despised by others. This confidence will lead the students’ toward excellence in their

studies, and thereafter will give them the satisfaction. For those who come from poor

families, with the motivation provided will make them stronger to face

life and assume poverty is not a barrier but they continue to try to change the lives of their

families in the future.

Religious lectures

Religious lectures at schools are run to create awareness about the values of religious

teachings. The values of the holy Quran are explained to students to enhance moral values in

them. Religious lecture like this is important to bring awareness to the students and prevent

the error from the student. As we know all religions teach good things. It also to instill in

the hearts of the student about community. Even in multi-racial Malaysia, we still can live in

peace. The function of religious lecture is to avoid student do the bad things such as theft,

gangsterism, drugs, molestation and disrespect teachers. The existence of religious lectures,

or even moral discourse, it can indirectly contain all the moral problems of students. It is

very important and should be done at the school on a regular basis.

Academic camps

Academic camps include a variety of benefits to students. in the academic camp, it

teaches students time management. Good time management and orderly manner and

extent affect their learning in school. Emphasis in the management of the proper time to

help students learn to manage their time more systematic, indirectly improve their

performance. In addition, the academic camp, student learns the right skills of study. by learning

the correct way of study, students can improve their performance. Students also explained

the right techniques of answering examination questions. This is important because if they do

not know how to answer the question, so it would be a problem for them. With the skill to

answer correctly and proper time management, they will be able to increase their

learning performance.
Anti-bullying program

This program should be established to prevent and deal with the problem of bullying

among students at the school. As we know that bullying can be divided into two type. First

is physical bullying. It was more physical bullying, such as at-beat, slapping, pushing and much

more. The second type of bullying is mental bully like fun.

Anti-bullying program is to create awareness among students. Parents in the program are

also invited to be present to provide in-depth understanding of bullying. So parents will

know about the activities of bullying and this will prevent their children from becoming victims

of bullying.

When bullying is eliminated, students will be quiet and this will affect their learning in

school. Without pressure from anyone, students can concentrate on their studies and indirectly to

increase their self-confidence to excel in academics.
Conclusion

As a conclusion, Classroom Activities Counseling and Guidance should be

implemented taking into account various aspects. All of this is the role of a counselor who

wants to see his students acquire excellence in their learning. To study the problem of students

and determine what activities are appropriate to address these issues, counselors must know how

to choose appropriate activities that provide benefits not only for students but the school itself.
