Welcome to this module on PATHFIT. This module contains your lessons and activities for 1
month. Also this module is self-instructional and allows you to learn in your own space. So sit tight, relax
and enjoy.

To make the most out of them, here are a few reminders for you to remember.

INTRODUCTION

Physical Activity Towards Health and Fitness is a course that focuses on developing physical
fitness and the ability to perform physical activities with ease. It develops skills necessary to
participate in a wide range of activities, such as dancing and playing sports. It also aims to
develop students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety associated with
the development of an active and healthy lifestyle.

The Instructor of Easter College Inc. prepared learning materials through modules to cater the
students’ needs despite this world wide on going COVID 19 pandemic. It aims to help the
students about the content of the course and it serves as a guide for them on what to do on the
following given activities.

This module is for PATHFIT 1 students, this subject is a 2 unit course and designed to guide and
introduce skills needed in the different genres of dances converted into an exercise type of
workout. It contains step patterns from simple to more complex combinations of movements to
help students create their own exercise routine for them to appreciate the importance of exercise
at the same time enjoy dancing as part of their daily activities.

This module aims to:

1. To familiarize the students about the basic movements skills.

2.To introduce dance exercises as part of their daily activities.

3.To encourage the students to improve their creativity by having their own dance exercise
choreography.

4.To help the students improve and develop their knowledge and skills in dance exercises.

5.To boost students’ self-confidence and self-esteem through dance exercises

IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

-This course emphasizes the logical principles of physical fitness and


self-testing activities through various exercises and values that improve
the Physical, Mental, Emotional, Social and Spiritual Soundness of
students. Self-testing activities aim to promote consciousness on health
related activities and holistic development pf the individual which can be
achieved through physical education program. Moreover, the course aims
to determine the physical fitness level of the individual to encourage them
to practice healthy lifestyle, an indicator of the realization of the Physical
education program. As such, development of total fitness will help
students become productive in their career and prepares them to cope
with challenges in the community and the environment.
V. COURSE OUTCOMES:

- At the end of the term, the would-be teachers are expected to:
1. Discover and comprehend required knowledge and make value
judgement of fitness activities.
2. Value the actual performance as a student uses his/her judgement in the
context of physical fitness parameters.
3. Recognize the interrelationship of movements and their effects on the body
to make one physically fit.
4. Show a healthy response to physical activities through the fulfilment of the
basic needs.

⮚ Definitions of Physical Education
● Education in the care and development of the human body, stressing
athletics and including hygiene.
● Physical education is defined as formal instruction in exercise and
proper eating.
● Instruction in physical exercise and in the care and hygiene of the
human body; esp., a course in gymnastics, athletics, etc., as in a school
or college.
● An element of an educational curriculum concerned with bodily
development, strength, physical co-ordination, and agility.

⮚ Physical Education is "education through the physical". It aims to develop


students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and
their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities associated
with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also develops
students’ confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration,
communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation. These,
together with the nurturing of positive values and attitudes in PE, provide a
good foundation for students’ lifelong and life-wide learning.

● Emotional Development Objective

o Physical Education aims at emotional stability


which helps in facing any type of situation.

● Social Development Objectives

o The social development objective is concerned


with helping an individual in making personal
adjustments, group adjustment, and adjustments
as a member of society.

● Spiritual Development Objective

o By participating in Physical activities and

develops self-confidence and self-control. This
self-control leads to moral and character
development together with spiritual
development.

ELABORATE
⮚  Physical Education Curriculum

● Physical education helps students develop physical skills and


confidence. For example, elementary and middle school curriculum
includes activities that help kids obtain and improve skills, such as
running, catching, throwing, and striking, applicable to sports such as
baseball, volleyball, or karate. Balancing skills could be applied to
dance or gymnastics.
● High school curriculum should focus on lifetime sports skills like
tennis or aerobic dance, with a secondary emphasis on team sports.
● Physical education develops fitness and fosters the desire for lifelong
participation in physical activity. high school curriculum prepares
students to become highly proficient in one or more sport and/or
fitness activity of their choice.

● Physical education classes teach the health benefits of regular exercise
and healthy food choices along with the risks of inactivity and poor
diet. Students of all ages might be asked to dedicate themselves to
making a few small improvements in diet and exercise for a period of
six weeks. They would be expected to journal about how they feel
during the process and reflect on how these changes affect
performance and mood.
● Physical education also helps students develop social skills. For
example, team sports help them learn to respect others, contribute to a
team goal, and socialize as a productive member of a team.

- The allied fields of physical education and sports share many common
purposes- the development of the total individual and concern for quality life.
These areas allied to the field may vary in content of the subject matter and
the methods used in accomplishing their goals.
● Dance
- Dance activities have been something of a stepchild for physical education,
for dance hangs on the periphery of physical education( Freeman, 1997).
Aesthetic expression through movement is provided by dance.
● Health Education
- Health Education is concerned with the total well being of the individual,
which encompass physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual health.
There three areas within health education that are also functions and goals of
health education.
✔ Environmental health included within health education is
concerned with the development of healthful and safe
environments for all people.
✔ Health instruction is focused in teaching the basic of healthful
living to students and the general public.
✔ Delivery of health services is concerned with developing and
maintaining a satisfactory level of health for all people.
