MODULE 3 ACTIVITY 1

Do a web search about the information technology system used in the clinical and
community area that help to deliver quality and safe care to the clients. Pick one
information technology application and illustrate the flow of its use in delivering safe
quality healthcare to the client.

In this digital age wherein technology advances almost every day. It is important for us
nurses to utilize modern technology and use it as an advantage for us to improve the quality of
healthcare that we provide to our patients

The information technology system used in the clinical and community area that help to
deliver quality and safe care to the clients that I have chosen is the EHR or Emergency Health
Records. The EHR is an electronic version of a patient’s medical history, that is maintained by
the provider over time, and may include all of the key administrative clinical data relevant to that
person’s care under a particular provider, including demographics, progress notes, problems,
medications, vital signs, past medical history, immunizations, laboratory data and radiology
reports.  

The Emergency Health Records provides easy access to a patient’s health records unlike
the traditional way which is manually filing records in a cabinet. EHR makes the records more
accessible for the healthcare services team which improves the overall quality of the Healthcare
delivery system. The EHR also has the ability to support other care-related activities directly or
indirectly through various interfaces, including evidence-based decision support, quality
management, and outcomes reporting. The EHR is proven to be one of the most reliable new
piece of technology that the healthcare delivery system can utilize in order to be more efficient
on providing care to the patients
