I. Introduction
Stress is something that causes anxiety or depression, it comes from schooling, church, or even at
home. It is the reaction of one’s body and mind to something that causes a change in the balance.
Stress is a common aspect of many different emotions like anxiety, frustration, anger, worry,
fear, sadness and despair. Some reasons for stress during adolescence are because of disturbed
family dynamics, peer pressure, inability to cope with studies, drug abuse and lack of
competence. Stress is also highly correlated with social and financial stress. It is a result of a
wide range of issues, including test and exam burden, a demanding course, a different
educational system, and thinking about future plans upon graduation. In this study, it aims to
know the cause and how can it affect the mental health of a student. To know the impacts of
stress experienced by students and on how can it affect their academic.
During this pandemic, students were not able to have a face to face leaning system. Instead,
students were taught through an online learning system. Most of the students still suffer from
stress. It is important to conduct this research in order to know the causes of stress that makes the
students suffer. In order to know the impacts of stress to students and their academic and for us
to be aware on how to deal with stress. Previous research indicates that academic - related stress
can reduce academic achievement, decrease motivation and increase the risk of school failure.
Previous research indicates that self-reported stress is associated with the presentation of anxious
states and lower well-being (Carter, Garber, Ciesla, & Cole, 2006; Kessler, 1997 ; Robotham &
Julian, 2006 ). Ongoing stress also pre-cipitates the development of more serious mental health
issues such as anxiety and depression (Kessler, 1997 ; Moylan, Maes, Wray, & Berk, 2013 ).
The academic-related stress experienced by students’ impacts their mental and physical health
and leads to a range of academic problems. To help students experiencing stress a good stress-
management skills have the potential to benefit young people in an ongoing manner throughout
their lives, given that many long -term health-related behaviors and pat-terns, both positive and
negative, are established during adolescence and early adulthood (Sawyer et al., 2012 ).
Therefore, providing opportunities to improve young people’s academic stress-related c oping
abilities during this highly stressful, crucial period of development is an important target (OECD,
2015 ).
The main problem of this study is on how can this stress can affect a student’s life in academic,
in social life and daily living. This study will pursue on how dangerous stress is and to spread
awareness to everyone how can this stress be a threat.
