The Challenges That Students Face During Pandemic and How to Overcome it.

Since its inception, this corona virus has claimed many lives. As a result, several countries in
the world have implemented a lockdown system. Likewise the state of Indonesia. During the
pandemic period, the government has implemented lockdown policies in several regions or
provinces. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the country's economy
and other sectors. One of them is the education sector.

During a pandemic, the government sets policies to further regulate the education system.
The policy is, requiring students to carry out the learning process online. With this policy, of
course there will be many things that must be prepared by various parties, to support the
continuity of the learning process online / online. In addition, there is an overhaul in the
education system, resulting in students, educators, and education personnel having to go
through a transitional period, from face-to-face learning to virtual or online learning.

The online learning process is actually not easy to implement in Indonesia. In the
implementation process, many limitations and problems occurred in the field. According to
the author's observations and reflections from various sources, there are several obstacles in
implementing online learning in Indonesia.

First, there are still many teachers who have limitations in terms of access to and use of their
devices. Not all teachers have the ability to operate and take advantage of their sophisticated
devices. For technology literate teachers, of course this is not a problem.

Conversely, for teachers who are still not technologically illiterate, this is a problem. In fact,
online learning requires creativity in the learning process.

This creativity is not only in terms of creating interesting material content, but also creativity
in utilizing the advantages of the online media used. This means that teachers must be smart
in creating subject matter so that it is easily understood by students by utilizing existing
online media.

Second, independent student learning at home cannot be fully implemented properly.

Learning independence is a requirement that must be met in online learning.

Limitations to face to face with the teacher make students have to be independent in
understanding the material and doing existing assignments. Students must understand well
the material presented. Then, complete the assignment given by the teacher including
reporting it.

In understanding the material and doing the assignment, of course the process of student
learning activities is not as smooth and easy as imagined. Misunderstanding or misconception
of a material may occur. Especially if the material is given, it needs a more detailed and in-
depth explanation.

Third, the assignments and homework given by the teacher are burdensome for students.
Online learning should not burden students in learning. Students should have freedom in their
learning activities. Not stressed by the number of tasks and short assignment time. This
includes being chased by the deadlines for submitting assignments given by the teacher. This
means that the material and type of assignment should be given wise timing and as much as
possible related to awareness of the dangers of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Fourth, not all students have mobile phones. Devices are the main tools used for online
learning. However, not all students have this communication tool. Maybe, it could be a
luxury item for students from economically disadvantaged circles. As a result, students do not
have online learning facilities.

Fifth, online shopping is constrained by unstable internet signals and expensive pulses (data
quota). We know that Indonesia has various geographical conditions. The variety of
geographical conditions of the student's home is a problem, especially related to the stability
of the internet signal.

However, behind it all, this online learning policy, is not an option. Rather, it is a must for
every actor in the education sector. This aims to break the chain of spreading Covid-19, and
return the situation to the way it was before.
