SPH SUPERVISORS BASIC COURSE

UNIT 3 – LEARNING

LEARNING DIARY:
Record your daily supervisory planning activities for the next 2 weeks. Summarize your learning/insights
and/or areas of concern related to the module on LEADING for the next two weeks. Use another sheet as
necessary.

Week 1:

During this course, I learned that leadership involves inspiring individuals to attain corporate objectives and
influencing their performance. Rather than focusing on tasks, leading focuses on managing people, such as
individual employees, teams, and organizations. Leadership is not a position, but a performance in taking
them to places where they can grow and foster. I learned that a good leader has these 4 characteristics, as
stated below:

1. Passion – A good leader doesn’t command; albeit rather, inspire people to see the bigger picture of
what they need to do for the benefit of their organization. A good leader is passionate in breaking
the barriers so you can enlighten your people to believe in the same goals you envisioned for them.
2. Teamwork - A good leader understands how to assess their followers' predicament and respond
appropriately based on their needs and capabilities. They are also good listeners because there are
no other people who can catch us during our downfalls, but our team. Teamwork allows great ideas
to come together while pushing their limit which can maximize the team’s potential towards honor
and excellence. Great leaders know when to step aside.
3. Good social and communication skills – A good leader knows how to use social and
communication skills to build stronger professional relationships. It is a valuable skill where you get
to have deeper connection with your subordinates to make them feel heard and valid.

Week 2:

The COVID-19 pandemic brings massive insecurity and anxiety, causing workforce disruptions at their
peak. Leadership is a never-ending process, and institutions that can adapt, change, and transform
challenges into opportunities will prosper in the world to come. Effective leaders can remain calm and
maintain a sense of equilibrium throughout the process. Leaders who engage with difficult talks and take
bold initiatives to envision the future for their organizations will be the most forward-thinking. At its most
basic level, transformational leadership is the capacity to express a concept or a course of action in such a
way that others agree with it. Optimism, passion, and camaraderie are all direct outcomes of people being
inspired. Everyone can be a leader if our heart pushes us through. Leadership is not a position, rather an
action in making a difference to translate our mission and vision into reality.
