Ch - 1 What is communication

* Communication means being able to tell other people what you want to say. Expressing our
feeling passing of information or influencing other people's opinion's are all parts of
communication.
* Communication can take place in many ways :
1.Verbal form i.e.,communicating orally.
2. Non Verbal form i.e., communicating using body language , gestures or tone , and pitch,
3. Written form, i.e., communicating via handwriting or printed information.
4.visual form, i.e., communicating via pictures, logos ,posters, maps aur charts etc.

* Communicating in any of the above ways will send the message across, but not all
communicating is effective.
Effective communication refers to the right way of communication that makes the right impact and
delivers the right message across.

* Element of communication
Communication cannot happens if there is only one person. It takes at least two people or parties to
make some communication; show the elements of communication can be:
1. Sender or messenger-The one who initiates the communication.

2. Ideas / information/ message being sent- The idea being conveyed.

3. Encoding -give some structure or form to the idea e.g., what is verbal or nonverbal
communication or pictures if visual communication. That is, converting a message into
group of words, symbols,gestures, or sound that present ideas or concept in the required
medium.

4. communication channel-Through which communication is taking place through the


environment or through some paper or social media or email over the internet etc.

5. A receiver or recipient-The target audience for the communication.

6. Decoding - once the receiver receive the message, s/he same medium and should decode the
received message so that the message can be comprehended and understood.

7. Feedback – It may include certain things most commonly, if the message is successfully
received or not.

* Importance of communication skills


Communication skills are very important in all type of fields. The importance of communication
skills is listed through following points:
1. get the message across correctly - communication skills are very important to get the correct
message across in right form. If the voice tone is right, the body language is positive and the words
are clear, the messages communicated well to the listener or audience.

2. Professional success - Communication skills are important for all type of personal success. All
types of communication- verbal, nonverbal, written and visual- play an important role in the
professional success as they help deliver the right content to the intended audience.
3.Increase productivity- The communication are important for productivity especially when
working in teams.Teams deliver as per message conveyed and communication skills are very
important for it.
4.Help in problem solving - communication skills play an important role in problem solving.

5. better professional image - Communication skills are important for building a professional image
a good professional is the one who understand his/ Her roll well, conveys clearly in the effective
manner and does his/her job well.

6. better networking and relationship – Networking is considered as an important factor in the


professional success.
Clear and crisp communication in a positive way leaves a positive professional image and people
like to connect with you. All this leads to building storing relationship also.
