1.0 SCOPE

The scope of this calculation note is to Analyse and Design the piles and foundation for PTA Substation SS-318N,
for EPCC-01 Package for 1.2 MMTPA PX-PTA Project, IOCL Paradip Refinery,Odisha.

1.1 DESCRIPTION & GEOMETRY OF STRUCTURE

Substation is a two storey RCC framed building of length 122.0m and width 26.0m / 38.0m with First floor at EL.105.300 and
Roof Level at EL. 111.860m. Roof level at two locations (AHU Room & GIS Room) has been extended up by approx. 4m to
get required clear ceiling height. Cable Cellar has been kept at ground floor with ground level at 101.050M (500mm above
Road level). Transformer bays (6m wide) are kept at north side & south side of main building between Grid 2 to 10 and 12m
wide bays at South side of building between grid 11b to grid 21.

The building has been analysed and designed as a moment resisting frame in both transverse direction and longitudinal
direction. Building Columns are supported on Piles, so Column base is modeled as fixed support at Pile Cap top level.

4.4 EARTHQUAKE LOAD

For Irregular Buildings Time Period in respective direction is entered in Staad while for more or less
Square Buildings Structure Category is defined in Seismic Definition for calculating value of S a/g.

Earthquake loads are evaluated with these additional requirements:

- A dynamic analysis is performed including a proper scaling of the results, in order to revise that the
dynamic base shear obtained is equal to 100% of the corresponding base shear using static
procedure.
- The effective seismic weight includes the total dead loads, and 50% of live loads (if applicable).
- A default modal analysis is performed by the calculation software STAAD Pro, when a sufficient mode shape number
is required to reach at least 90% of participating mass in all X, Y and Z directions.
- Although as per Cl. 7.3 of 1893 part 1, Imposed load of roof need not be considered in seismic weight calculation &
also in load combination but considered as this load is very nominal.

Vertical acceleration values are taken as 2/3 times the corresponding horizontal values.

Seismic Zone = III

(As per IPPP-6417-8310-SP-051-0013 "Design Basis for Civil,
Zone Factor , Z = 0.16 Structural Architectural, UG Networks")

Importance Factor, I = 1.5 ( As per IPPP-6417-8310-SP-051-0013)

Response Reduction R, = 5 (For Special Moment Resisting Frame SMRF)

( As per Table 9 - IS 1893 part 1:2016 )

Design Seismic Base Shear VB = Ah x W ( as per Cl. 7.6.1 - IS 1893 part 1 : 2016)

where Ah = Design horizontal acceleration spectrum value, using the fundamental

natural period T, in the considered direction of vibration.
W = Seismic weight of the building

Design horizontal seismic coefficient AhX = Z I Sa

2 Z I Sa
Design Vertical seismic coefficient Av = x x x

g

The base shear is calculated using CQC method.

In STAAD definition is given for the response spectrum for Medium soil; Scale = 2,
Based on soil type, time period & damping ( here 5% for concrete)
In the Direction of Y(i.e.Vertical Direction) factor of 1.962 is given

STAAD calculates Sa/g and evaluates base Shear in respective directions.

Above base shear is than compared with base shear using empirical formula in the STAAD itself as per Cl 7.6.2
IS 1893 PART 1:2002 based on which STAAD gives a multiplication factor for each direction.
STAAD is enabled to multiply these factors in the respective direction by itself.

Following Site spectra for 5% damping is used as per Doc. PDRP-8310-SP-0001

In STAAD definition for static shear is given for soft soil. However the static shear needs to be updated as per site specific
spectrum.

Hence for calculating the static shear in both directions, the acceleration corresponding to time period as per site spectra
is considered.

Time Period in X direction = 1.04 sec (From Staad)

Time Period in Z direction = 0.93 sec (From Staad)

Accelertaion in X direction as per site spectra = 0.16

Acceleration in Z direction as per site spectra = 0.18

Seismic Weight from Staad = 150480.7 KN ok
Static Shear in X direction = 7223.0736 KN
Static Shear in Z direction = 8125.9578 KN

Dynamic Shear from Staad in X = 7193 KN
