What is Tesla
Tesla is a company that makes electric cars, solar panels,
and batteries for cars and home power storage in the
United States. It was named after Serbian American
inventor Nikola Tesla and was launched in 2003 by
American entrepreneurs Martin Eberhard and Marc
Tarpenning (Gregersen, E. et al., 2021).
They wanted to prove that there is no need to
compromise to drive electric (About Tesla | Tesla, 2021).
Elon Musk is the co-founder and CEO of Tesla as well as
SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company (About
Tesla | Tesla, 2021).
Elon Musk supervises all product design, engineering,
and global manufacturing for Tesla's electric
automobiles, battery products, and solar energy
products as co-founder and CEO (About Tesla | Tesla,
2021)
BRAND IDEA
The company believe the faster the world stops utilizing and
depending on fossil fuels and move toward a zero-emission,
the better (About Tesla | Tesla, 2021).

Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to

sustainable energy
PERSONALITY

Tesla can be seen as exciting and sophisticated with its

innovating and revolutionary ideas.
BEHAVIOR
One of Tesla's missions as a firm, according to the
corporation, is to solve the world's major challenges with
exceptional individuals who share their passion for
changing the world. Their work environment is fast-paced,
enthusiastic, and forward-thinking. The company's
headquarters are in the San Francisco Bay Area. They try to
create an inclusive workplace in which everyone can
accomplish their best work, regardless of gender, race,
religion, age, or background (Tesla, n.d.).
acts

Tesla produces and continues to make products accessible

and affordable to more people.
ENVIRONMENT
Tesla’s interiors consist of high functional, technology
friendly, and ergonomically correct furniture products.
Since they sell electric sustainable cars designed with
innovation, so does their workplace. They made sure that the
furniture’s used looks part of the Tesla-branded workplace.
So much so, they utilized innovative materials and
construction methods to achieve ideal design aesthetic and
functionality. (Case Study: Tesla Motors | Enwork, 2021)
CORPORATE IDENTITY
Their corporate identity can be seen in their logo. The T-
shaped design is inspired by the cross section of an electric
motor which symbolizes that an electric motor is the catalyst
for movement and innovation-the exact thing that Musk
wants its brand to reflect and present to people.
PRODUCTS/SERVICES

Tesla builds more than just all-electric vehicles but also

infinitely scalable clean energy generation and storage products.

TOPIC

The company doesn't have their own slogan.

BUT
their mission is to accelerate the advent of sustainable
transport by bringing compelling mass market electric cars
to market as soon as possible.

TESLA).
DESIGN
CONCEPT
Design PHILOSOPHY
-Promotion of sustainability through innovating materials
Design Rationale
-Many car parts are wasted each year, most of which ends up in landfills, especially in the
States. According to an auto recycling statistic, 80% of a car part can be recycled. This
knowledge brought us the design concept of “Forwarding innovation and sophistication”
which intends to be one with Tesla’s brand identity of continuously innovating and
visualizing big ideas to move forward a green and brighter future. The key part of the design
concept is utilizing materials used for automobiles as new materials for Tesla’s workplace
interiors to reduce landfill and water fill waste and consumer consumption. Such materials
would include upcycled steel, aluminum, copper, magnesium, and carbon fiber; other than
car materials, tempered glass will also be utilized to create a space filled with natural light
and to bring in the outdoor nature inside. The approach of upcycling these materials would
not only be true to Tesla’s adherence in accelerating the transition to sustainability in as
many ways possible but also to the image they want to exhibit to their loyal customers and
potential buyers.
Design Objectives
To design an interior that gives employees a sense of pride in their workplace
To design an interior that would reflect the brand’s personality and identity
To use upcycled car parts and use it as new materials for its interior
Design STRATEGIES
-Materials such as steel, magnesium and carbon fiber will be utilized for accent walls;
aluminum will be utilized for lighting fixtures, while copper would be for curated doors
in the office.
-The color palette would be composed of Tesla’s color variations for their automobile
products which are: Red, Pearl White, Deep blue, Solid Black, and White Metallic to give
off a sophisticated feel.
-Use glass windows to bring the outdoor natures in and natural light.
SUPPORTING FACTS
WHY STEEL? Strength and Innovation. Elon Musk has confirmed high quality 300 series stainless steel
as their engineering team's material of choice for the Cybertruck. It's corrosion resistant, strong and
affordable
According to Stainless Structural, Using stainless steel components in your interiors means that you
are being environmentally responsible. This is because steel is a nearly a hundred percent recyclable
material. So much of the stainless you use may be repurposed. We are also able to recycle the waste
produced in the manufacturing processes of our shapes and sections.
According to Stainless Structural, stainless steel is also Durable and Hygienic because stainless steel
has a natural coating that prevents oxidation. Therefore, the material is non-corrosive. Nonetheless,
stainless is easy to clean and does not succumb to damage from exposure to water, or chemical
cleaning agents. Because it is so easy to clean, and it does not absorb bacteria, experts consider
stainless a very hygienic material.
According to Stainless Structural, stainless steel is strong because stainless steel is by nature
exceptionally high in strength. Furthermore, it is also a highly ductile material. For interiors
designers, these two properties mean your spaces can be more open and free of too many structural
columns. Stainless steel structural components can also withstand large loads and span long distances
without cracking. Nonetheless, they are able to handle tensile stresses better than other framing
materials. This is also a good quality for things like handrails and benches that will be subjected to
different live loads at varying locations.

SUPPORTING FACTS
According to a research created by Fentahun and Savas (2018), the main materials used for making
cars, parts and components, along with future trends, are steel, aluminum, magnesium, copper,
plastics and carbon fibers.
According to Tushal, Beck and Killian, (n.d.) metal walls are popular in both commercial and
residential construction. They offer a multitude of design capabilities and a sustainable barrier to
weather. While most often utilized in commercial office, educational and manufacturing buildings,
metal wall panels also have unique uses in residential homes and condos.
