Year 1

Course Description:
The Beginning French course offered at North Miami Middle School is rigorous and requires the student to be self-motivated. It is intended to
introduce students to the French Language and culture. This is an inquiry-based learning experience. Project-based learning activities are also
embedded in lessons throughout the school year. M/J French Beginning introduces students to the target language and its culture. Students will learn
beginning skills in listening and speaking and an introduction to basic skills in reading and writing. Also, culture, connections, comparisons, and
communities are included in this one-year course. This course integrates the Goal 3 Student Performance Standards of the Florida System of School
Improvement and Accountability as appropriate to the content and processes of the subject matter. It also must reflect appropriate Florida Standards
benchmarks. The course addresses the following components: Literature & Culture, Oral Expression, Written Expression and Reading
Comprehension.
As part of the International Baccalaureate Language and Acquisition Program, the following criterions will be evaluated throughout the school year.
