RAMANUJAN COLLEGE

UNIVERSITY OF DELHI
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

PREVIOUS COVID ASSISTANCE INITIATIVES :-

The NSS Unit of Ramanujan College initiated an array of
events for Covid Assistance, from April 2021 onwards
and still we are continuing. The reports for the same are
as follows:-

COVID ASSISTANCE GROUP

The NSS Unit of Ramanujan College, University of Delhi

in the month of April when the entire India was in the
middle of a second COVID-19 wave tried to provide
assistance and aid by creating a Covid-19 Assistance
Group to help the people in need. It was all done under
the counsel and supervision of NSS Programme Officer
Dr Alok Ranjan Pandey and Respected Principal Sir Dr
S.P. Aggarwal with whose direction the volunteers
successfully tried to help and provide necessary
information to the civilians.
The group was created on 27th April and was functional
throughout the month of May. Student Volunteers
showed great enthusiasm and active participation in
disseminating essential information from contact details
of plasma donors, oxygen cylinders to food service
availability. The most crucial task and something each
and every volunteer was particular about was verifying
all the potential leads before putting it out anywhere as
wrong information could cause hassle and confusion to
the already worried and tensed patients. So, each day
the volunteers from morning to evening verified as many
numbers as possible and checked probable sources to
establish the authenticity of the information. An excel
sheet was then formed in which compiled list of all these
sources from availability of beds, blood and plasma
donors and other related information was present. Later
on the same verified leads were not only shared on
WhatsApp groups but also on Instagram handle and
Facebook page of NSS Ramanujan so as to extend aid
to a larger number of people. Another essential feature
of the Covid 19 Assistance group was that quick
information made available regarding any essential
service that the Covid patients or their families required,
each day there were queries regarding either oxygen
cylinders or hospital beds and due to the activeness of
the volunteers verified and instant leads were provided
as time was an integral factor during those months and
every member was very much aware of the same. Not
only this awareness about lunch/canteen drives and
oxygen langars conducted in Gurudwaras were also
dissipated among various groups and portals. Every
morning, regular and freshly updated information was
compiled and spread. The volunteers left absolutely no
stone unturned in collecting and spreading authentic
information and did whatever they could in their potential
to make all the valid details and news accessible.
All in all the group was made with purpose of helping
and providing assistance to the needy and the same
was achieved due to the zestful involvement and
contribution of the NSS Volunteers. The combined
efforts of everyone in the group especially that of Srijan,
Tarsem, Ankit, Avika, Sneha, Amit and Kavita was
pivotal and crucial in the making and propagating of this
information through the group.
Plasma and Blood Donation Drive
The Ramanujan College, University Of Delhi had
organized a Plasma and Blood Donation Drive from 2nd
May 2021 to 2nd June 2021. This initiative was taken
under the guidance of Principal of Ramanujan College,
Dr. S.P. Aggrawal and NSS Program Officer , Dr. Alok
Ranjan Pandey .

According to Dr. Pandey , the drive would be organized

at different locations near college. And he said," We
were constantly in touch with some potential donors and
we got them on board to donate. More concerted efforts
were made to bring on board a larger number of
people."

Along with teachers , NSS Volunteers had contributed

their best efforts to make this drive successful. All the
were fully active 24/7 to achieve the target. The result
we had received was really appreciable. We were able
to satisfy many people who donated plasma and
initiated a positive step in the society. They inspired all
of us and other people to do the same and hence the
results were really commendable. After the completion
of the drive all the volunteers were very overwhelmed to
made the drive successfully done.

The NSS Unit of Ramanujan College, University of
Delhi, started an initiative to spread awareness and
necessary assistance wherever required. All of this was
done under the guidance and direction of NSS
Programme Officer Dr Alok Ranjan Pandey and
respected Principar Dr S.P. Aggarwal, who were the
ones primarily behind the actuation of this resourceful
programme. The programme commenced under the
NSS COVID Helpers Group, which was further divided
into five teams. Each team was allotted its own distinct
responsibility. The first Team Hospital Management
Team was allocated with the governance and charge of
healthcare administration and looking at the availability
of vitally essential resources pertaining to health and
medicine. There were ten members in the team, who
ensured that every thing occurred without any hindrance
and tried to resolve issues promptly. These volunteers
included – Ruchika, Anchal, Ishika, Khushi, Dhriti,
Ruksar, Arya, Sandhya, Saksham, and Palak. During
the second wave of the pandemic, the chief objective
was to look out for credible resources like oxygen
cylinders, integral medicines, bed availability, and any
sort of hospital related requirement that came to our
notice. So, to do the same, all the reliable sources were
first collected and put together. Later on, an excel sheet
containing information about all these requirements was
collated, which was then updated daily by the members
of the group. Every day started off with volunteers
checking if the organized information in the excel sheet
was authentic and if it was still available or not. It was
made sure that each and every minute detail shared
with the ailing patients and their families was hundred
percent authentic in order to avoid hassle or confusion
from our end. Moreover, when the second wave settled
down, the group was still functional and this time the
objective and aim was to spread awareness about
vaccination. The volunteers helped the needy and the
uneducated to access the COWIN Portal and took it on
themselves to register these people for vaccination.
Furthermore, reels, informational videos, posters and
other necessary messages were disseminated in
multiple groups and on the social media handles of NSS
Ramanujan, to make everyone aware of the necessity of
getting vaccinated and also, educational counselling
was given to those who were hesitant about getting
themselves jabbed. Myths, rumours, and fake news
regarding vaccination and the credibility of vaccines
were eliminated through the combined efforts of the
volunteers. The volunteers did everything in their power
to educate and dissipate necessary information to the
people, and the heads made sure that everything
happened smoothly. Overall, the Hospital Management
Team delivered needed assistance, aid and information
during these erratic times. Srijan, Tarsem, Ankit, and
Avika also played a decisive role in establishing and
monitoring the group.
