Last week, we studied God’s promises to reward those who give generously.
Please share with the group what you have done since then, to make sure you
give God his share from what he has given to you.
Today we are going to look at God’s instructions to all believers regarding their place in
the family of God. We will look at how God expects each of us to care for one another
in the church because we are a part of His family. We will also learn that we each have
a job to do in God’s family. Read John 1:12-13, Hebrews 13:1, Romans 12:3-5,
Galatians 6:10.
As you read the following verses, pay attention to the special relationship we have as
Christian brothers and sisters in the family of God. Read John 1:12-13, Hebrews 13:1,
I Corinthians 12:26. Please give some examples of how - like in a biological
family, you have experienced family care from other Believers. You could also
give examples of how we should treat our brothers and sisters in the Lord.
(Weddings are family affairs but many times those getting married get a lot of help from
their brothers and sisters at church. Funerals are also family affairs but our brothers
and sisters in the Lord often help us. In making significant life choices we do get advice
from our human family but often we also get advice from other Believers who have
experience in the area of our question or choice.)
Of course, the more active we are in a church the closer we will feel with other
members. Read Hebrews 10:24-25. One of the negative effects of Covid restrictions is
that it has caused some people to only attend church online. Though we can learn
truths from church online, it is not the same as attending church in person. What are
some of the advantages of attending church in person over simply watching a
church service online? (There is no one to ask you how you are doing in church
online. There are no opportunities for you to help others or to do a ministry when you
attend church online. When you attend church face to face, you will be encouraged
through worshiping God in community. You do not see your other Life Group members
and talk with them in church online.)
It is normal for our lives to have up and down times, but this past year of having
restricted lives has caused many people to become depressed. Read I Thessalonians
5:11, I Corinthians 12:26, I Peter 3:8. Who are some people God may want you to
visit or make a video call to this week in order to encourage them? (People who
have lost income or a job or a loved one are in need of encouragement. People who
are separated from loved ones because of Covid are in need of encouragement.)
Each of us were born into a human family. Families are not all the same, but in most
families, there are different jobs that each member has that benefits the entire family.
Read Romans 12:3-5. At TBC, members also have jobs for the benefit of their spiritual
family. Some are ushers who welcome people, some play instruments in the band,
some sing with the back-up team, some lead LIFE Groups, some do the calling and
inviting for LIFE Groups, some do the icebreaker for their LIFE Group. Please share
with the group what abilities God has given you which you could use for the
benefit of the family of God. (Life Groups are a good place to practice an ability before
doing something in the Church.)
God did not create you to simply enjoy others helping you. God made us so that we
could do good things to benefit others. Read Galatians 6:10, Ephesians 2:10. There
are many different kinds of good things we can do to help others. You could take
someone who has been confined to their home for months on an outing, you could
teach someone to play an instrument, you could go sing songs to people who are
discouraged, you could help a child with their module and teach them the skills they are
intended to learn from it. You could share the message of salvation with someone.
Please think about what good works God may want you to do this week and share
it with the group. There may be some others in the group who might want to help
you do it. (Consider doing something special for a young person or possibly for an old
person. Consider doing something special for one of the staff at the church.)
