FROM CURSED TO BLESSED

Good afternoon,

I. What is a Curse?
Used as noun: a misfortune that comes as if in response, or as punishment; a cause of great harm or
misfortune;
Used as verb: to call upon divine or supernatural power to send injury upon; to bring great
misfortune (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
A cursed is something that is not good, in fact, it is something bad; even a disaster; it is the complete
opposite of being blessed.
Now we look upon the “Word of God” why, and how, and in what circumstances a good God
removed His blessing in us and even decide to curse us.

Deut. 11:26-28
26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse--27 the blessing if you obey the
commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today;28 the curse if you disobey the
commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following
other gods, which you have not known.
God gave us a choice.

1. God removes His blessing, because of our disobedience/sin.

Generally speaking, the root of all kind of sin is disobedience.
Example: Eve and Adam

2. God curse or punish us, again, because of our disobedience/sin.

Its two different concept: First God’s removal of His blessings, and second: God cursed us and gave
us punishment.

We can observe this han time nira Adam and Eve. When Adam and Eve disobey God, they were
removed from the Garden of Eden. And after that gincurse ni Lord an ground tungod han sala han
man, ngan gincurse gihap an woman amu nagkuri an chirlbirth. nga kailangan na magtrabaho han
man

Deut. 28:15-20
15 However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands
and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:16 You
will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.17 Your basket and your kneading trough will
be cursed.

3. We can be cursed by the sins of our father, which what is we call (Generational sin, passes on)

Exodus 20:3-6
3 You shall have no other gods before me.4 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of
anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.5 You shall not bow
down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the
children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,6 but
showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Deut 27:1515 Cursed is the man who carves an image or casts an idol-- a thing detestable to the
LORD, the work of the craftsman's hands-- and sets it up in secret.
1 Cor 6:9
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual
offenders10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the
kingdom of God.

Jer 17:5
This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his
strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

4. Trusting in spiritual forces other than God, involving in any unholy vows, declared bondages,
or declared allegiances to an idol, or to some spiritual forces other than God, will result in
God’s removal of His blessing and actually placing a curse on us.

Example: Exo 32:35 And the LORD struck the people with a plague because of what they did with the
calf Aaron had made.

Unholy vows – fraternity/sorority, making a sumpa like saying “cross my heart”, “hope to die”, “I
promise”, “mamatay pa yong kapitbahay nyo” hehehehe!
Declared allegiance to an idol – mga panata, deboto han mga rebulto, novena
Spiritual forces other than God – fengshui, horoscope, spiritista, tambalan, anting-anting occult practices
and masonry

TESTIMONY FROM CURSE…

Now we’ll know what is a blessing

II. What is a Blessing?
To invoke Divine care for; to confer prosperity or happiness upon; approval; favor, abundance
(MWCD)
Good things, even great things

Why God bless us?

Deut. 28:1-14
1If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the
LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.2 All these blessings will come upon
you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed
in the country.4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of
your livestock--the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.5 Your basket and your
kneading trough will be blessed.6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
God bless us because of our obedience.
On what areas of our lives:
Verse 6 – “You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out”
We will be blessed from our birth to death- eternal life. Throughout lifetime you’ll be blessed by God –
only if you’ll obey Him.
Example:
Studies, financial, family, work, etc.

1. Today, we have a wonderful, magnificient, and incomparable blessing when He gave His Son to us
– Jesus Christ.
Gal 3:14
He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through
Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
It even surpasses to the concept of a blessing. For you receive, certainly if you obey God, and certainly
because you deserve it. What Jesus had done, is what we call grace. “Amazing Grace”, for we are not
worthy of what He did.

III. From Cursed to Blessed – Disobedience to Obedience

Why we are blessed by God? We are blessed to be a blessing

1. Be a blessing to anyone/everyone….
a. Words of affirmation
There is a need to verbalize message of love and words of encouragement…
Example: Telling your parents how much you love them.
Telling you Life Coach they are special to you.
Telling you friends that you will be their friend forever.
Exercise: Tell your partner something you appreciate about them.
How would statements like these make you feel?
But how about if your partner will tell you “maraksot ka man”, bulok ka talaga, waray ka gamit,
your such a loser you know, you’re stupid, you will never be happy… How would you feel about it?
Be reminded that in Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those
who love it will eat its fruit.” Now choose life…choose to bless people because these condemning or
demeaning or humiliating words can destroy our self-image and will cause us feel unloved and
worthless.

b. Tender touch
It is a gentle touch, stroke, kiss, hug or embrace given by significant people in our lives like husband
and wife, parent and close friend.
It can also be a pat on the shoulder, laying hand on one’s head or shaking of two hands.
It must be girl to girl or boy to boy…
Exercise: Give a meaningful touch to your partner

c. Being a giver
It could be financially, or giving time to others, giving moral advices and moral support, or sharing
your wisdom and knowledge to others.

2. But, how do we response for those people who we choose to bless, even curse us in return. The
“Word of God” still tells us in Romans 12:14, ‘Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not
curse.
Jesus is the perfect example for this. In Gal 3:13-14 says,
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is
everyone who is hung on a tree."14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham
might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the
Spirit.

IV. Steps to received you freedom from cursed to blessed

a. Complete the Cursed to Blessed section in your sin list inventory and discuss it with your
ministry partner.
The next step is… to confess…
b. Confess to God any sins of yourself and your ancestors.
People in Scripture often confessed the sins of their ancestors to break bondage and release
blessing.
c. Specifically forgive people who hurt you, or made you feel small or worthless because of the
hurtful words they spoke to you. Also forgive those who let you down.
