Using multimedia formats in interpreting literary texts use blogs, mind


mapping, mobile phone text tula, slideshow, tag cloud and videos. Blogs
are used in spreading literature awareness, mind mapping are used to
organize information about literary texts, mobile phone text tula for
improving literary works, slideshow presentation used for education
purposes, tag clouds for creative designs in presenting literary works
and videos are used in presenting literary work.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED


I have learned that through Multimedia Formats in Interpreting Text
made strategies for a better understanding, interpretation and
evaluation of texts that characterizes creativity plastered on the
21st Century Standards. One Format is Blog, a website containing a
person’s opinion or interest and is changed regularly. Mind mapping
is a graphical technique to visualize ideas and information. Mobile
phone text tula is a Traditional Filipino poem. Slideshow
presentations use Microsoft Power Point in presenting slides. Tag
cloud uses tags within a textual content. Lastly, videos are used to
record, copy and playback in an electronic device.

Activity 1

1. Watch the short video on Youtube entitled “Salbabida Story”.

2. Pick out some lines (at least three) wherein the speakers look back
at some of their experiences.

“Nakita naming si Kesz na natutulog sa harapan ng convenient store.


Nagkaroon ako ng compassion, si KB na tulungan si Kesz. Kasi ano eh,
sinipa-sipa siya nung mga dumadaan, tapos puro sugat pa yung ulo nya
tapos wala syang damit.”

3. After writing down some of the lines about their memories, compose
your own interpretation of what you think the video is about. Write a
text tula as a tribute to the people in the video and acknowledge
their share in the society by helping other people.

Bawat tao’y may sariling ugali,


Pino’y ma’y kayumangi,
Pagiging matulunging ay hindi mapapawi,
Sa kahit anong problemang dumampi,

Activity 2

1. In the first part of the video, we are introduced to Efren


Penaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. To whom does he compare his
friend and mentor, KB Manalaysay?

Efren Penaflorida, the CNN Hero of 2009 compares Kesz, his friend and
KB, his mentor as salbabidas which are known as life savers.

2. What does he mean by this comparison?

Efren used the term salbabida or life savers as a comparison to both


his friend and mentor because both saved his life on times of his
troubles and lifted him up when he was drowing with problems.

3. What was Efren’s problem when KB met him?

Efren’s issue before he met KB Manalaysay was bullying. He was a


victim of bullying and the insight that he had to get revenge from
this was by physical force.

4. How was the latter able to help him?

KB Manalaysas helped Efren by being a life saver himself which led me


to the conclusion of KB’s act of protection against Efren from the
bullies.
5. How has KB’s simple act of kindness affected Efren? How was it able
to affect not only Efren but many other kids like Kesz, for example?

The act of kindness of KB Manalaysas towards Efren affected him by


changing his insights towards people he hate as a motivation to be a
variation of goodness. This goodness that KB radiated was positively
contagious that his kind heart wanted to help people in dire times.

6. What do you think is the message of the video? What lesson does it
want to share to the viewers?

The lesson of the video “Salbabida” was about helping each other.
Everyone can be a life saver, Efren stated. That is why every
individual can save someone even in little ways. Saying hi or sending
them a message would lift up their moods as well as listening to their
problems would do. Being a life saver does not mean to offer physical
goods but a relationship that is pure and well-meant is the best life
saver anyone can have.
