1. Discuss the form/structure of the poem.


The “Padre Faura Witness The Execution of Rizal” is a free verse poem so it does not use
consistent meter pattern and rhyme. Moreover, each stanza has different number of lines.
2. How do you feel while reading the poem, that Padre Faura witnessed the execution of his
former student?
I feel miserable because as Padre Faura witnessing the execution of his student, he doesn’t
have the guts to spare that person on account that he doesn’t’ have the capacity to stop the
execution.
3. What was the message that Danton Remoto wanted to convey in this poem?
The poem wanted to convey that we should always value and never forget the sacrifice of Dr.
Jose Rizal for the freedom of our country. His sacrifice gave Filipinos motivation and light of
hope to shine and conquer despite of experiencing worst situations like war, calamities, and
even the situation right now which is the pandemic.

Coronavirus Pandemic
- In this situation, I feel the fear
and uncertainty when it comes to
the security of my loved ones
because whenever you go outside
of your home there is always risk

reason that this act of Filipino

spirit is what makes us united
to help the people who

1. Based on the terms used in the poem, I think the author was living in a province when she wrote the
poem. Province, because there are lines such as:

The flock of birds perched in the loft To the rustling of leaves


The blades of grass in the meadow To the chirping of birds
And the cogon flowers in the air. To the buzzing of the bees
I will Listen to the sound of breeze To the flapping of butterfly’s wings

The details in the lines can be usually seen and experienced when you are in an environment like in the
province or rural places.

2. I am very sure that the occurring event in our society that influences the author to write the poem is
lockdown or community quarantine due to coronavirus pandemic. Also, in this kind of situation, the
author transformed what she experienced in the surrounding and create this kind of art, poem.

3. The message of the author in the poem is about giving hope and support for the people especially the
medical workers and front liners who are willing to risk their lives for the sake of the others. It is not just
only for encouragement that she wanted to convey in the poem but also, she wanted to bring back the
normal life we used to live.
