Happy New Year and welcome to Innovate 3ZZ3!

On behalf of Firdauzy (our TA) and myself, we are very

much looking forward to working with you over this coming semester on what we hope will be a unique
and valuable learning journey for all, ourselves included.

For the course to be a success, we need to hit the ground running with the team projects, which will
comprise 50% of your final grade. The purpose of the projects is to apply the strategic foresight, change
management, storytelling and teambuilding models that will be covered in class – and in our online
discussions – to issue areas that will have significant implications for society looking out to 2030.

To this end, from the list below, please rank order your three preferred topics using this confidential
survey. We will also ask you to self-rate whether you consider yourself as someone who is more
extroverted, introverted or somewhere in the middle. This will provide an additional dimension around
which we can form more diverse teams. The survey should only take about 2 minutes to complete.
Please complete by Thursday January 7 (12 noon).

Healthcare Food Security Inequality in Society Cities

Political Governance Energy Systems Work Social Change
Learning and Education Social Media Human Mobility Innovation
Economic Development Cybersecurity Climate Resilience AI in Society

I will do my best to ensure your top preferences are honoured, however, I cannot guarantee this will
happen because student demand may not be evenly spread. Furthermore, I may need to juggle
composition to ensure there is diversity in the backgrounds of the team members. In our first class on
Monday January 11 (6:00pm to 9:00pm), you will work with your new teams to narrow the scope of
your projects.

The course website is now open should you wish to see what’s coming up. This includes the course
outline, team project assignment guidelines, compulsory readings and videos for our first three online
discussions, plus some optional primers on strategic foresight, all under Content. Under
Communications > Discussions, there is a space for you to introduce yourself.

You are under no obligation to look at anything until January 11. Nonetheless, please fill out the
confidential survey on project preference topics by Thursday January 7, 12 noon. Otherwise, you will
end up being assigned by me. If you cannot access any of these materials/links, please let me know right
away so we can correct.

Thanks for your help and enjoy the rest of your break. We look forward to seeing you on January 11,
6:00pm, cameras on, ready to engage!

Best wishes,

Tom & Firdauzy
