The Untamed is a fantasy story set in ancient China about two young paladins who are completely

opposite in character. Wei Wuxian, a carefree, talented young Immortal Cultivator who has quite a
daring, shameless and unrestrained personality. The other, Lan Wanji, is the serene and shining example
of manhood. Their relationship is marked by teasing and annoying incidents until they find themselves
entangled in a bloody power struggle between the clans.

Sixteen years ago, the cultivation world was ruled over

by five clans: Gusu Lan, Yunmeng Jiang, Qinghe Nie, Qishan Wen, and Lanling Jin. Wen Clan being the
most powerful clan was the matermind behind the series of plots that would wreak havoc upon the
lands which the pair found out.

Wei Wuxian’s daring stand against oppressive Wen Clan made him become a target for ends in him
thrown away in the burial mounds where he was pushed to practice crafty sorcery to survive. he does
then return to the land to help fight together with the other clans thus defeating the wen clan.

However, Wei wuxian becomes an infamous demonologist, and he gets hunted down by all clans for
saving and protecting a separate branch of Qishan Wen Clan who took no part in the Qishan Wen Clan’s
oppression which every clan wanted dead

Wei Wuxian’s insistence on protecting this group of people together with his notoriety for choosing
Demonic Cultivation makes Wei Wuxian a great scapegoat for a hidden force looking to place all blame
on Wei Wuxian for all the evil deeds and killings committed in a long scheme for power—a scheme
which was unraveled 16 years after Wei Wuxian’s reappears from supposed death during the last battle.

The dilemma of Wei wuxian was choosing between saving and protecting the separate branch of Qishan
Wen Clan who took no part in the Qishan Wen Clan’s oppression whilst using Demonic Cultivation and
practicing crafty sorcery, and going against other clan , or letting them be persecuted because that is
what mostly the other clans wanted and slide his belief.

According to the Teleological thoery, his choice of actions was morally right and i agree with it. Wei
Wuxian, despite having to find himself facing the condemnation of every clan in the Cultivation world, he
never abandoned any part of his vow to eliminate evil, protect the weak and maintain a good
conscience, keeping and remaining firm to his moral obligation as a cultivator. although he used an
unacceptable method to do it he was able to uphold justice and protect many innocent members of wen
clan. The Wen clan members being hunted, persecuted and despised simply because they have an
affiliation to certain persons or group of people is horrifying.

The crowd, throwing all sorts of accusations at Wei Wuxian, which Wei Wuxian cleverly refuted, only to
be met by irrational, emotional and blind responses are so typical of crowd psychology like the type of
toxic behaviour we see sometimes on social media or in the news. like Wei Wuxian, we see the sad effect
of one-against-the-crowd which is very unfortunate an d futile. The public opinion can sometimes be a
cruel and its effects are wide-spread, destructive and merciless.

it was really The Crowd and their hurtful accusations, their collective hate, their selfishness. these are
sometimes the representation of their hidden greedy ambition to get their hands on the power wei
wuxian holds.

The power of the collective vs the individual is stark and powerful. this is another point to which the
theory of utilitarianism should not be applied here because having to give the greatest happiness that
most people desires can be of masked evil.

furthermore ,Wei Wuxian's unorthodox methods in dealing with evil which is taken as abandoning the
righteous, correct path in favour of an unorthodox has allowed understanding of the hypocrisy of human
nature explored through his own transition from seemingly good to seemingly evil. this has allowed
other clans to rethink and review their belief and laws.

understanding of what is black and white, good and evil, enlightened . whether or not you can judge
someone based on the rules and laws that the world forces upon you. this can be heavy especially for
someone who used to believe that rules can hold a person upright in any way. i think that sometimes we
define evil and good the wrong way, or define it the way we want to be. other times we just believe the
way it was defined and never question it.
