Look at the bus timetable from the Bus Station to the Town
Centre and answer the questions that follow.

1 2 3 4
Bus Station 8:08 8:45 9:22 9:59
Shops 8:19 8:56 9:33 10:10
The Hill 8:24 9:01 9:38 10:15
The Grove 8:27 9:04 9:45 10:18
Town Centre 8:31 9:08 9:49 10:22

46 How frequently do the buses from the Bus Station run?

47 After the first bus leaves the shops, how long do you have
to wait for the next bus?

48 One bus takes longer than the others to complete the trip
from the bus station to the town centre. Which one is it?

49 The timetable is not a very good design and does not

include the time spent at the bus stop. If three minutes
are spent at each stop, how long should the journey from
the Bus Station to the Town Centre take?

50 If a further bus was added, what time should it arrive at

the Bus Station to pick up passengers?

From your

1 A quadrilateral is a 4 sided shape (e.g. a square/rectangle)

which will have 360°
2 A right angle = 90°
1/3 of a right angle = 90° ÷ 3 = 30° 120°
One and a third right angles = 90° + 30° =

3 A circle has 360° so 1/5 of 360° is 360° ÷ 5 = 72°

4 A straight line consists of two right angles: 2 x 90 =
180°

Remember: the formula for the area of a triangle = base x height

2
5 Base x Height = 6cm x 9cm = 54cm2 = 27cm2
2 2 2

6 Base x Height = 12cm x 11cm = 132cm2 = 66cm2

A line of symmetry will cut a shape in half so that each piece is

identical as a mirror image.

Note: This is not an equilateral triangle, so it has only 1 line of

symmetry.

Note: Not all sides are equal so this star only has 1 line of
symmetry.

HCF = Highest Common Factor

10 Factors of 15 are: 1, 15, 3, 5
Factors of 45 are: 1, 45, 3, 15, 5, 9 HCF = 15
11 Factors of 12 are: 1, 12, 2, 6, 3, 4
Factors of 52 are: 1, 52, 2, 26, 4, 13 HCF = 4
12 Factors of 24 are: 1, 24, 2, 12, 3, 8, 4, 6
Factors of 64 are: 1, 64, 2, 32, 4, 16, 8 HCF = 8
Factors of 56 are: 1, 56, 2, 28, 4, 14, 7, 8
13
Factors of 64 are: 1, 64, 2, 32, 4, 16, 8
HCF = 8

14 -5 -7
- 12

15 - and + becomes -
so - 6 x 4 = - 24
16 4÷–2=
(Use rule above) -2
17 2 x 14 = 28
0.2 x 14 = 14 x 20p = £2.80 (or 2.8)
so 2.2 x 14 = 28 + 2.8 = 30.8
(ALWAYS think of money when you see decimals)

18 X 300 90 2
40 12000 3600 80
7 2100 630 14
18424
12000 + 3600 + 80 = 15680
2100 + 630 +14 = 2744 =

19 1 6 4
3 4 19 12 164
3 21

6 1 9 12 6 321

The key to two-way tables is to fill in what you definitely can work
out first and the other answer will ‘fall into place’.
Completed table is as follows:
21 26 Boys Girls Total
Packed Lunch 14 22 36
School Dinner 59 20 79
Goes Home 23 62 85
Total 96 104 200

Working is
96 – 14 – 23 = 59
36 – 14 = 22
79 – 59 = 20
200 – 36 – 79 = 85
200 – 96 = 104
104 – 22 – 20 = 62

27 Imagine that a is for apples and b is for bananas

4a – 5a = - a (no number 1 in algebra)

9b - a
or
3b + 6b = 9b – a + 9b
28 Again, think of p as pence (money)

33p + 6p – 3p = 36p and do not forget the -17 36p – 17

29 4 apples x 2 = 8 apples
8a

30 Think of c = cats and d =dogs

cat + cat + cat = 3cats = 3c then + 2dogs 3c+2d
31 x = 34° and to nearest 10° = 30°
32 x = 133° and to nearest 10° = 130°
33 x = 305° and to nearest 10°
= 310°
Ask your parents to measure your angles to check. You
will be allowed to be 2° out either side.

The multiplications and division explanations are not necessary in

order to gain full marks – they are simply shown here for working
purposes.

1/2 1/4 1/2 x 3 = 3/6

6/10 3/4 6/10 ÷ 2 = 3/5

1/5 3/6 1/5 x 4 = 4/20

6/8 3/5 6/8 ÷ 2 = 3/4

2/8 4/20 2/8 ÷ 2 = 1/4

41 45 0.4 20/40 (same as 1/2)

0.25 6/60 (same as 1/10)

0.5 2/5 (same as 4/10)

0.1 5/20 (same as 1/4)

0.125 1/8 (1/2 of 1/4)

Bus 3
49 The journey should take 23 mins (from Qn 48) but we need to add
on 3 minutes to each stop at the Bus Station, Shops, The Hill and
The Grove.
35 minutes
3 mins x 4 = 12 mins
23 mins + 12 mins =

50 The buses run every 37 minutes (from Qn 46) so 9:59 + 37 mins = 10:36
