From your

1 247 divided by 4 = 61.75, so 61 whole cakes.

61
2 The 9 is in the hundredths column so we have
9/100
3 Look at the third decimal place and the 5 rounds the 9 to 10 so the 6
rounds to a 7: 35.70
4 You need to work out each value to find the odd one out:
8% of 100 =8
0.8 is just a number = 0.8
0.8% of 100 = 0.8 8% of 100
80/100 = 8/10 = 0.8
4/5 = 8/10 = 0.8

5 24 x 25 = 600, then halve it:

300
6 2 squared = 2 x 2 =4 and 2 cubed = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8,
so we have 4 x 8 = 32
7 We need to find 70% of 830 pupils. 10% = 830 ÷ 10 = 83
70% = 83 x 7 = 581 pupils. So boys = 830 – 581 = 249
8 You need to multiply out the bracket to obtain 5 times x and 5
times 2 = 5x + 10
9 Remove smallest number (-40) by adding 40 to both sides and
obtaining: 6x - 32 = 10x
Remove smallest value of x (6x) by subtracting from both sides and x=8
obtaining: 32 = 4x Now divide by 4 to find x

10 Area of a triangle is (base x height) ÷ 2 = (21cm x 13cm) ÷ 2 =

136.5 cm2

11 Work out the figures year by year: 2004 : 13 members

2003 : 2 x 13 = 26
2002 : 26 + 5 = 31
12 Speed = distance ÷ time 175 ÷ 5 = 35 m.p.h
(do not forget the units; in this case, miles per hour). 35 m.p.h
13 To find 1/3 ÷ by 3 360 ÷ 3 = 120 cm = 1m 20 cm =
1.2m
14 3 x £11.48 = £34.44 for CDs, and 5 x £3.97 = £19.85 for cassettes.
£34.44 + £19.85 = £54.29. Subtracting £54.29 from £55.00 £0.71
15 There are 41 balls (don’t forget to count 0) and 21 even numbers.
Probability = 21/41
16 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 are all NOT prime as they are divisible by other
numbers other than one and themselves 37
17 12 has got 6 factors 1, 12, 2, 6, 3 and 4. 12
18 Imagine money, again! The arrow is between £7.30 and £7.40 and Between
more than halfway. Any numbers between 7.36 and 7.39 would be 7.36 and 7.39
acceptable.

19 Use which ever method you prefer but if you can see that 27 x 20 =
540, then the answer of 19 will be easy to work out 19
20 Remember square numbers:
1, 4, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144 100 + 21 =
121
21 The smallest fraction will always be a small number divided by
a large number, which is 4/25 as the difference between these 2 4/25
numbers is the largest, 19.

22 Draw out a number machine: number --> x4 --> + 17 --> ÷5 = 9. 7

Inverse: 9 --> x5 --> - 17 --> ÷ 4 =

23 A rounded calculation would be (4 x 8) ÷ 8 = 32 ÷ 8 = 4

24 The new co-ordinates need to be (1- 3, 3 + 5) = (-2, 8). Remember if we
move to the left, we are moving to the negative quadrant of the grid. (-2, 8)

25 10% = £3.50 and 5% = £3.50 ÷ 2 = £1.75. 15% = £3.50 + £1.75 = £5.25.

Reduced price = £35.00 - £5.25 = £29.75
26 Volume = length x width x height so we have 15 x 20 x ? = 900.
15 x 20 = 300. Therefore 300cm x 3cm2 = 900cm3 3cm
27 Area of rectangle = 8 x 4 = 32cm2.
Area of both triangles = (5 x 8) ÷ 2 = 20cm2
(Both triangles make half of another rectangle). 52cm2
Therefore, the total area = 20cm2 + 32cm2 =

28 4/5 of 390 = (390 ÷ 5) x 4 =

312 red cars
29 Putting the numbers in order: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 with 5 as the
middle number. 5
30 Each number ÷ by 10 each time, so 3 ÷ 10 = 0.3
31 1 litre = 1000ml so 2.75 x 1000 =
2750 ml
32 1000m = 1km so it is approximately 3000m =
3km
33 540 minutes ÷ 60 = 9 hours 9 x £8 =
£72
34 10% = £1.20 so 5% = £0.60.
After one year, balance is £12 + £0.60 = £12.60. 5% interest is then
added to the balance of £12.60.
10% of £12.60 = £1.26 so 5% = £0.63. £13.23
Balance after 2nd year = £12.60 + £0.63 =

35 There are 2 months out of the 12, April and March: 2/12 =
1/6
36 You need to see the pattern of + 11 so 97 + 11 =
108
37 You need to know that a 7 sided shape is a
Heptagon
38 There is 360o in a 4 sided shape (quadrilateral) and this shape has
two right angles and a 43o angle: 360° - 90° - 90° - 43° = 137o
39 You just need to double 576 and get
1152
40 Probabilities add to 1 so 1 - 0.29 =
0.71
41 There is 24 hours in a day: 4/24 = 2/12 =
1/6

42 72 divided by 4 (the denominator of the fraction) = 18.

So 72-18 = 54
43 Make both sides balance: 43 x 7 = 301 so 250 + 51 = 301.
51
44 To remove divide by 10, multiply both sides by 10 : 5x = 100.
Then divide by 5 to get x x = 20
45 To find a percentage, multiply by 100: 0.47 x 100 =
47%
46 0.36 = 36% yellow. 100% - 36% = 64% green.
64% as a fraction = 64/100 = 32/50 = 16/25
47 6 minutes = 6 x 60 seconds = 360 seconds.
3/4 minute = 45 seconds 405 seconds
Total = 360 + 45 =

48 6.7 + 8.3 - 5.5 = 9.5 m 100 cm = 1m 9.5cm x 100 =

50 As a fraction, the difference is 2/8 = 1/4. You need to remember
