Saving Recordings from BigBlueButton Premium

PLEASE NOTE: This update is not related to BlueJeans users is any way. BlueJeans is a separate web
conferencing tool available in Canvas.

OVERVIEW: The premium version of BigBlueButton (BBB; accessible in the Conferences tab in Canvas)
was made available for a free trial period in Canvas. This trial period will conclude on June 15, 2019.
One of the features of the premium version of BBB is permanent recordings. When instructors hosted a
meeting in Canvas, the recording remained in their course indefinitely. As Canvas reverts back to the
free version of BBB, subsequent recordings will only be available in Canvas courses for two weeks.
Unfortunately, any recordings made with the premium version of BBB will be removed from Canvas on
June 15.
Below are the steps to download and save recordings made with the premium version of BBB. Please
download and save all of your relevant recordings by end of day, June 14, 2019.
NOTE: Moving forward, the free version of BBB does not allow the user to download and save
recordings.

Saving Recordings from the Premium Version of BigBlueButton

1. Navigate to Conferences on the left
hand navigation of your Canvas course
2. Click on the name of the recorded
session under “Concluded Conferences”
3. Click on “video” to open the recording in
a new browser window

4. While the recording is playing, right click

anywhere within the playback window and
select “Save video as…” NOTE: If you right
click outside of the playback window, you will
see “Save as,” which is not the same option
and will not result in a saved video.
5. Name your recording, select the
destination folder, and click “Save.”

We recommend checking these recordings once they have been saved to your computer, Box folder, or
hard drive.
