What do I need to know?


You completed the first step to be eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits. You have applied for
Unemployment Insurance benefits and established a Weekly Benefit Amount. Next you need to meet
eligibility requirements to receive benefits.
• We will review the information you provided when you applied for benefits. Your employer
may also provide us with information.
• We may need additional information from you, your employer, or a third party. We will notify
you if additional information is required.
• This may be the only notice you receive as long as you meet all other eligibility requirements.
• Carefully read all mail you receive about your Unemployment Insurance benefits.
How do I get paid?
To get paid you must request benefits every week. When you request benefits we will collect information
to determine your eligibility for the week requested. We will ask if you worked, were available for work, and
what you did to look for work.

How are my benefits determined?


• Your benefits are determined by law, Minnesota Statutes Chapter 268.
• Your Benefit Year is determined by the date of your application for benefits.
• Your Weekly and Maximum benefit amounts are based on eligible wages you were paid
between 10/01/2019 to 09/30/2020. This is your base period.

How do I request a benefit payment?


You must make a request for benefit payment every week even if your eligibility is being reviewed
or you have an appeal pending. If you do not request benefits for more than two weeks, you may
lose payments for weeks you did not request in a timely manner. When making your request, you
are requesting for the previous week(s).
Online: www.uimn.org Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
1. Click Applicants and then click Log in to My Account.
2. Log in to your account using your Social Security number and password.
3. Click Request Benefit Payment.

Keep the address on your account up-to-date for at least four years after your last request for a
benefit payment. Even after you stop requesting benefits, your account may be audited or we may
need to contact you for other reasons. If we are unable to reach you, audit findings will be made
without your input, and you will be responsible for any overpayments that might result.

You have the right to file an appeal if you believe your benefit year begin date is wrong or this
determination is incorrect for some other reason. An appeal results in a telephone hearing with an
unemployment law judge.

If you decide to file an appeal, it must be submitted or postmarked by Monday, February 1, 2021.
This determination is final if not appealed by Monday, February 1, 2021. To appeal online, log
in to your account at www.uimn.org , click View and Maintain My Account > Issues that may affect my
eligibility > Determination of Benefits and follow the appeal prompts. To file by fax or mail include the
front page of this determination with a short statement of your reason for filing the appeal.
