2 Installing Devices
2a Planning device installation positions
Total required cabinet space = 2 U + 2 U x (Number of 2 U disk enclosures)
For example, if OceanStor Dorado 3000 V6 is equipped with four 2 U disk enclosures, the space required by a
cabinet is: 10 U = 2 U + 2 U x 4
Note: The height of the storage system is measured by the unit of U. 1 U equals 44.45 mm.

2e Removing the protective cover of the controller enclosure

 Before installing a controller enclosure, remove the protective cover on the controller enclosure. Otherwise, it
cannot be installed on the adjustable guide rails.
 The figure above shows how to remove the four M3 screws on the left side of the protective cover. You also
need to remove the other four on the right side.

6
2f Installing storage devices into the cabinet
NOTICE
 To avoid device damage, do not stack any components but install them onto guide rails.
 If you remove controllers and disks for easily moving and installing enclosures, record the slots of these
controllers and disks in advance. This helps you insert controllers and disks back to their correct slots later. If
a controller is inserted into a different location, a system power-on failure may occur.
Installing a controller enclosure or disk enclosure

After the controller enclosure is installed, pull out the information plate from the controller enclosure, as instructed in
the following figure. On the left part of the information plate, you can record the device's management IP address. On
the right of the information plate, you can use your cellphone to scan the QR code to obtain more information.

2g (Optional) Installing disk modules

 If all disks are installed on the storage device, skip

this procedure.
 To ensure well heat dissipation, insert disks in the
sequence of disk slot IDs.
 If there is any vacant disk slot, cover it with a filler
panel.

2h (Optional) Installing filler panels

Cover the vacant slots in the cabinet with filler panels to ensure good ventilation and a neat appearance.

7
3 Connecting Cables
3a Connecting disk enclosures

Connect disk enclosures according to the following rules:

 Expansion cables must be naturally bent, and a minimum of 97 mm clearance must be reserved in front of each
enclosure for winding cables.
 The number of disk enclosures connected to the expansion ports on the controller enclosure cannot exceed the
upper limit.
 In the rear view of a disk enclosure, expansion module A is in the upper part and expansion module B is in the
lower part.
 Connect expansion module on controller A to expansion module A on each disk enclosure and expansion module
on controller B to expansion module B on each disk enclosure.
 When connecting cables between two disk enclosures, connect the P0 port on one disk enclosure to the P1 port
on the other disk enclosure. When connecting a disk enclosure to a controller enclosure, connect the port on the
expansion module of the controller enclosure or the onboard expansion port to the P0 port on the disk enclosure.
 If a storage system is configured with two or more disk enclosures, form multiple expansion loops based on the
number of expansion ports on the controller enclosure, and distribute the disk enclosures evenly to each loop. If
smart disk enclosures are connected to swappable RDMA interface modules on the controller enclosure, it is
strongly recommended that you configure the same number of loops on each swappable RDMA interface module.
 Connect disk enclosures in one loop over two separate links for optimal network reliability.
 OceanStor Dorado 5000 V6 and Dorado 6000 V6 support connection to smart disk enclosures, but OceanStor
Dorado 3000 V6 does not.
