 Patru Therapy

 Paultice method in Siddha is termed as Patru.

 Here the paste is prepared by grinding herbs as

whole or its parts like bark leaves etc separately or
juice is prepared from them. This is applied over the
affected areas either with heat or without heat.

 Chukku (Dry Ginger) patru - applied over fore-

head for head ache and migraine.

Neerkovai Mathirai Patru – inflammatory

conditions, swellings, arthritis, sinusitis
 Pugai Therapy
Fumigation Therapy is termed as Pugai in
Siddha

Either the whole body or parts of the body are

exposed to the medicated fumes

Iyyam (Kapham) diseases are mainly treated

by this Therapy

 Manjal (Turmeric) Pugai – Sinusitis

 Milaku (Black Pepper) Pugai is used for

Rhinitis.
 Nasiyam Therapy
Nasal drops in Siddha is termed as Nasiyam.

 In Nasiyam therapy, medicated oil or Plant

Juices or flower juices are instilled in nostrills
drop by drop.
Chukku Thylam Nasiyam – Sinusitis

 Kuratai Pazha Nasiyam - Allergic Asthma,

Rhinitis and migraine.
 Ottradam Therapy
 Fomentation in Siddha is called as Ottradam

 The raw herbal drugs or fresh herbal leaves are

made into pouch with a cotton cloth . This
medicated pouch is heated and fomentation is done
over the diseased parts.

 Wheat bran and Rice bran Ottradam - Bronchitis

and lung infections.
 Kalikkam Therapy

 Kalikkam : Application of eye drops is called as

Kalikkam.

 It is either applied in the form of herbal juices or by

dissolving the medicated pills in honey.

Note: Substances or Medicines used in Nasiyam

are in liquid form where as substances used in
Nasika paranam are in the form of Powder.
 Mai Therapy

 Collyrium is known as Mai. Raw herbal or mineral

drugs are ground with some herbal juices and made
into fine paste.

 It is also prepared from some charred raw herbs by

grinding them with some herbal decoctions or flower
juices
