Make a CERA (Content, Experience, Reflection and Application) on the poem This life is what
we make it.

The poem encourages us to look life with a positive attitude. It emphasizes the fact that
the poem is all about life that we can make. It tells us to be optimistic and have the courage to
persevere and we will overcome our difficulties and be victorious. It says that in every journey in
our life there is a bad and good but we need to forget those negative sides in order to continue
our journey in life. We know that sometimes many obstacles are coming in order to achieve goals
we want so we should be hopeful rather than hopeless and optimistic rather than pessimistic. The
value the poem is emphasizing loving hearts is that we should continuously help others and gives
light to brighten their days cause that is the life all can make it. Desire could be control by being
satisfied and happy with what one has.

There once a time during my childhood days, I have a classmate who are a victim of
bullies. She couldn’t easily be friendly to anybody because most of the others don’t like to be with
her. She goes to school sometimes wearing her uniform repeatedly for three days. Everyone
noticed the smell and tried to stay away from her and, that brought her discomfort for the whole
day. I myself noticed it and I easily go to her. I told her that she didn’t need to worry and just
continue to be friendly to others. At the same time, I told her to be responsible to herself as she
was the only one who can protect herself from discrimination of others. Behind those things, she
told me that she can’t afford to buy or wash her clothes because of financial problem. So, I gave
her an extra money that time.

In this poem, it expresses the views about us who are the ones who should make our own
light. It tells us to see the good sides. If you are in grief, you have to see the brighter side in order
to attain the happiness. In addition, every one of us has our own morality but we should see the
good in it and shed light to others. We are the only light and hope that will make the solution in
every problems. Thus, the light in us will help others to stand up and look for its beauty. It also
encourages us to treasure people who have loving hearts because they were jewel to others who
shows the happiness to people who experience grievances. Even during times of great adversity,
like grief of someone, a sunny side of man will rescue us and we should be thankful at times.

Lastly, our life is what we make it. Reality brings it to us to win our own battles and the others
too. Behind every smiles, there is grief and sadness in it. For example, if someone experience death
of a love ones, we can also help them by giving support on spiritual and financial. If someone cry
because of break ups give him or her love and hugs. If others want to connect with you, make
friends with them and let them taste the happiness in life. Everything has their own light and
responsibility too. In addition, we can apply this to others by giving our minimal help to them.
Everyone experiences pain and sorrow. Everyone taste the joy and happiness but we can also
make a light to others. We can navigate our way through the darkness, often not alone. We need
one another in remembering our tremendous light.
