Licenses needed for furniture decor store

1. Company Registration with the Registrar of Companies.


With this certificate of incorporation, the business unit takes its official birth. Has to
be done as per CA, 2013.

2. Shops and Establishement1


The Shop and Establishment Act is applicable nationwide, and all the commercial
establishments, such as the hotels, and eateries, amusement parks, theatres, and other
entertainment houses, as well as any other such public amusement places, come under
the purview of the Act.
Registration must be filed for within 30 days of commencement of your
establishment.
Registration is mandatory for several reasons, including the opening of the current
account in a bank. This Shop and Establishment Act license, forms as a basic license
and a proof of your business to apply for other registrations required to run a business
in India.

3. Trade License
Authority: municipal corporation.
It is official permission by the local authorities to operate your business in the
particular locality.2

4. GST Registration
As per the GST regime, a business having an estimated annual turnover exceeds
Rs.40 lakhs must get GST Registration (unless it’s a special category state under s.22
of CGST Act, 2018 where GST Registration is mandatory if the aggregate turnover in
a financial year exceeds Rs 20 lakhs).3

5. Fire NOC (state government)


Authority: State Fire Dept.
It is mandatory to possess fire license or no objection certificate (NOC) to obtain a
building plan approval. It is proof that the building complies with guidelines laid
down by the fire department and is unlikely to observe any fire related accients. One
can obtain the License from the Fire Services Department which is regulated by the
State Government.
It is mandatory for individuals who are willing to obtain any Occupancy Certificate or
a Trade License from the civic body in the concerned state.4

6. Signage License/ Sign Permit:


Authority: Municipal Corporation.
If the store wishes to put up a sign for advertisement, a legal permit called the Signage
license would be needed. Some cities have regulations on the size, location, type or
even the lighting of a sign you put outside your store.5

7. Pollution NOC:
Authority: State and Centre PCB
Any and every industry, operation or process which may result in the discharge of
sewerage into the environment and if is likely to emit any substance into the
environment that may cause any form of pollution mandatorily has to obtain a consent
from the State Pollution Consent Board. This consent is as per the Water (Pollution &
Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Pollution & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
Moreover, every state has its own pollution control boards. Such clearance has to be
obtained prior to commencement of business.6

8. Import Export Code Registration7 (not needed)


IEC (Import Export Code) is required by anyone who is looking to kick-start his/her
import/export business in the country. It is issued by the DGFT (Director General of
Foreign Trade).
According to the latest circular issued by the government, IEC is not mandatory for
all traders who are registered under GST. In all such cases, the PAN of the trader shall
be construed as new IEC code for the purpose of import and export.8
Import Export Code (IEC) isn’t required to be taken in case the goods exported or
imported is for personal purposes and isn’t used for any commercial purpose.

9. Lift License
Authority: Labour Commissioner
Under the purview of state government. Lift Clearance License, which ensures that
the lift operations comply with safety norms can be obtained from the electrical
inspector in the office of the Labour Commissioner.9
