1. Is this writer hopeful or discouraged about the future? How can you tell?
Answer :
Discouraged. Because I think the writer is discourage about the future. Even he expressed
his hopefullnes on the text, but the writer still inferred that there is a little hope of human
behavior getting better.

2. What are some negative effects of population growth, according to this author?
Answer :
Negative effects of population growth are a ruined environment, lack of food and water,
extinction of many species, and also have a bigger chance of conflict.

3. What does this author say must be done to avoid disaster?


Answer :
The best hope for both humanity and other life-forms would be to cut human propagation in
half, so the world's numbers do not exceed 8 billion by mid- century. (The only event in
which the earth would achieve zero population growth or even shrinkage would be some
environmental or social catastrophe.)
