1. Summary of events before damages/ 1. Resumen de eventos antes de daños:


Engine was automatically shut down by Oil mist detector
Cylinder unit # 2 -14 was dismantled and the pistons and connecting rods were removed from engine
Big End bearing metals of Unit # 2 - 14 were destroyed and Crankpin journal damaged over full width and circumference

El motor fue apagado automáticamente por el detector de neblina de aceite


La unidad de cilindro # 2 -14 se desmanteló y los pistones y las bielas se retiraron del motor
Se destruyeron los metales de los rodamientos Big End de la Unidad # 14-14 y se dañó el muñón de Crankpin en todo el
ancho y circunferencia

3. General Findings/ 3. Resultados generales:


• Geometrical measurement with OD Micrometer revealed a deficiency in circularity between -0.04 up to
- 0.75mm from the original dimension
• Unit # 2 -14 has Big end bearing material adhered to the journal surface
• Both fillet radii completely destroyed by squeezed out BE bearing metals
• Run out measurement taken on Main Journal # 3 shows maximum of 0.80 mm deviation in rotation clockwise
and rotation anticlockwise show maximum of 0.81mm
• Run out measurement taken on Main Journal # 2 show maximum of 0.76 mm deviation in rotation clockwise
and rotation anticlockwise show maximum of 0.75mm.

• La medición geométrica con micrómetro OD reveló una deficiencia en la circularidad entre -0.04 hasta - 0.75
mm de la dimensión original
• La unidad n. ° 2 -14 tiene material de cojinete de extremo grande adherido a la superficie del diario
• Ambos radios de filete completamente destruidos por BE exprimido con metals
• La medición de agotamiento realizada en el Diario principal n. ° 3 muestra una desviación máxima de 0,80 mm
en la rotación en sentido horario y la rotación en sentido antihorario muestra un máximo de 0,81 mm

• La medición de agotamiento tomada en el Diario principal n. ° 2 muestra una desviación máxima de 0,76 mm
en la rotación en sentido horario y la rotación en sentido antihorario muestra un máximo de 0,75 mm.

4. NDT Findings/ 4 Pruebas no destructivas:

• NDT for cracks by Magnaflux revealed no cracks on the surface of Crankpin journal #2 – 14
• NDT for Hardness by Equotip revealed maximum values of 661hB with an with an average of 480 to 540 hB

• Las pruebas no destructivas de grietas realizadas por Magnaflux no revelaron grietas en la superficie del diario

5. Conclusions/ 5. Conclusiones:

With all found discrepancies and the excessive found bend in the Unit # 2-14 MME conclusion is that this Crankshaft is
beyond On-Site repairs and needs to be dismantled.

Con todas las discrepancias encontradas y la curvatura excesiva encontrada en la Unidad # 2-14, la conclusión de MME es
que este Cigüeñal está más allá de las reparaciones en el sitio y necesita ser desmantelado
