Project Description
INTRODUCTION
Problem Statement

Proposed Solution Anahaw petioles are the least used component of the tree, as logs, leaves,
and fruits are. Fiber is extracted from the petioles to produce fiber-
reinforced gypsum boards that can replace other types of boards, such as
the boards without reinforcements and other fiber-reinforced boards using
far more commonly used fibers in different industries.
Different amounts of Anahaw fibers will be used to reinforce gypsum
boards and will be tested by exposing the boards to concentrated fire and
flexural strength tests.
Project Goal This study aims to evaluate if the use of Anahaw fibers as an additive to
gypsum boards can increase the heat and fire resistance of the material.
The testing of materials with a separate edition of treatment to the material
determines whether a significant deviation from the control set-up is
present.
Specific Objectives 1. To know if there is a significant difference in the flexural strength of
each board with treatment when contrasted to the control setup.
2. To know if there is a significant difference in the fire resistance of each
board with treatment when compared to the control setup.
3. To know if there is a significant difference in the flexural strength of
each board with treatment that contains a varying concentration of
Anahaw fiber.
4. To know if there is a significant difference in the fire resistance of each
board with treatment that contains a varying concentration of Anahaw
fiber?

Conducted The source of the fire applied to the boards is from a blowtorch. The
boards were designated and divided into three parts as to where the
middle portion of these areas are exposed to fire to provide space for
damage at which the other regions would not be affected. These parts
were observed by exposing them in a concentrated deep orange fire,
which is approximately 1000 degrees Celsius. The time from when the
boards begin to be exposed to the fire to when there is the slightest
physical damage on the other side is recorded.
2. Flexural Strength Test
The test was performed in the Department of Public Works and
Highways (DPWH) using the flexural strength testing machine. This
machine can apply increasing amounts of force and precisely record the
amount of force at the point of breaking. Flexural strength is the ability
of composites or materials to withstand bending deflection as energy is
applied to the structure. It is the bending strength of the material or the
transverse rupture strength of the material. The three-point strength
test is performed to determine the maximum force that the board can
contain. The prototype sample supported at its ends, making the ends
sturdy, and there is no support in the middle
