PARTIAL VOLUME FOR HORIZONTAL CYLINDRICAL TANK

( Determination of Maximum Operating Liquid Level )

Partial Volume for Cylinder

Internal diameter Di = 1.530 m
Tangent length L = 5.525 m
Total head volume VH = /12 x Di3 = 0.938 m3
Total Shell volume VS =  x Di2/4 x L = 10.158 m3
Total Volume V T = V S + VH = 11.096 m3

From Pressure Vessel Handbook, by Eugene F.Megyesy, 11th Edition. Pg. 419

Partial Height = 1.195 m

H/D = 0.781
Partial Coefficient = 0.837934

Cylinder Partial Volume VSP = Partial Coefficient x VS

= 8.512 m3

Partial Volume for 2:1 Ellipsoidal Head

From Pressure Vessel Handbook, by Eugene F.Megyesy, 11th Edition. Pg. 424

Partial Height = 1.195 m

H/D = 0.781
Partial Coefficient = 0.877124

2:1 Ellip. Head VHP = Partial Coefficient x VH

Partial Volume = 0.822 m3

Total Operating Volume of the Tank = 85% Full

= 0.85 x VT
= 9.431 m3

Total Partial Volume for Cylindrical Tank = VSP + VHP

= 9.334 m3
(Approximate to Total Operating Volume, So Partial Height is OK

So, total length of fixed ullage dip tube = Di - partial height + Flange height + Shell thk.+ Gasket
= 1530-1195+215+13+3
= 566 mm
