Evaluating Student’s Performance on Average Time Allotment Upon Answering Four (4)
Self-Learning Modules in Mathematics

I. Introduction
Studying is a time consuming practice for an individual to think, discuss and review
important information of query or curiousness; it requires materials/resources for a quality of
learning approach. Self-Learning Kit is a learner’s material that is popular and is preferred by
many as mode of learning transmission. This innovative learning material has precise discussion
and activity that somehow guarantees an effortless understanding to complex and mandated
lesson.

However this “shortened” lesson deals with due date of outputs and submission of projects
and performances that are barely a pressure factor to students in Dauin Science High School.
This problem certainly answers huge time management upon studying, doing, and answering the
Self-Learning Kit thus resulting in outdated outputs and incomplete performances upon
submission. This problem is not new but is relevant to this time of Pandemic. Most targeted of
this dilemma are graduating students who are not time conscious and spent hours of recreation
whether be it on internet, home or outside. Having it as a habit can spare oneself from learning,
degrades learning competency through scouting answers on Google and copied answers sent by
classmates via Messenger, and much likely to blame Department of Education and the
Government because of “push through” system of education in Pandemic.

On recent survey, It found out that learner’s need to have more than five (5) examples
including different situations inorder to facilitate flow of understanding (Dexway
Communication, 2017). This tells that learning is effective on having three (3) resources
(CAE-Computer Aid, 2000). This resources may be found on internet, books or articles and is
indeed a time consuming effort. Of 60% rates have increase of retention from 25% (Dexway
Communication, 2017) if the said condition is meet. According to National Survey of Student
Engagement’s findings, the average student spends 14 hours per week, that would be 8 hours per
day, preparing for classes . Thus, this study aims to compute the average time in hours of a
sample of twenty (20) students in Grade 10-Saturn and evaluate if it still follows the standard
hours of studying that would maximize learning.
II. Purpose of the Study
Dauin Science High School is known to be a standard school for excellence. Due to
Pandemic outbreak, the school used Self-Learning Kit to ensure delivery of lesson from distant
location of student and to avoid the spread of Covid-19 cases in the area of Dauin and
neighbouring municipalities. Analysis is based on few sample which is made to prove a
hypotheses, qualitative research is done inorder to evaluate the study query. The main purpose
of this study is to evaluate student’s performance on average time allotment upon answering
four (4) self-learning modules in mathematics based on standard hour needed in studying
according to a survey.

III. Methods
The data on hours spent by studying self-learning kit mathematics module on students were
collected via sending researcher’s question on Messenger. This is also to ensue protection and
avoidance to Covid-19 virus. Twenty (20) students were randomly asked answers were given in
in a mode form or the most number of hours the student studies. Raw data is then computed and
and evaluated using mean of grouped data inorder to compare it to the standard hour of studying.

Standard Average of Studying:

14 hours per week
(14 hrs)(4 weeks)/ 7 days = 8 hrs per day

V. Discussion
Students are still struggling to get the right number of hours to study inorder to have a
maximum learning. This is proved when the standard average of studying is turned into number
of hours per day and compared to the mean of grouped data of twenty (20) students. Therefore
the average of hours spent in answering four (4) self-learning module in mathematics by twenty
(20) students is 7.45 hours. Thus, the twenty (20) students are closer to the standard average of
studying per day which is 8 hours per day. The difference of time may be spent include on doing
household chores and cutting environmental distractions since this mode of learning is done at
home. Still, it is close enough to the standard number of hour just 33 minutes behind.

VI. Conclusion

The purpose of this research was to identify the average number of hours students spent
upon answering four (4) self-learning modules in mathematics and evaluating it through
standard number of hours on studying. Based on analysis it can be concluded that the Grade
10-Saturn students are still on the standard number of hours on studying. Distance learning is a
new mode of learning and is efficient as face-to-face meet ups. Such that, learning is complied
by hours of studying and results to increase of learning. Shortened lesson and involving different
resources develops students ability to think for hours and do facilitate quality of learning.
