First Days in A New School

In my life there is a very important moment that I remember perfectly. This

moment was when I was moved from one high school to another in ninth grade. This

was a terrifying surprise to me since I didn’t know anyone from the other school.

There are two main reasons of why this moment marked me: first, I had more

responsibilities and second, I had to make friends since I didn’t know anyone. This

wasn’t an easy transition since I had to move from one type of education to another,

with new courses, new teachers, and new people. At first, fitting in a whole new

community was difficult, but once I got comfortable with the new environment I was

able to fit right in.

Panamerican School was the first school I ever attended. It is located 15 from

Panama City. When you enter the school you would see the parking lot in front and the

school in the back. It was a red and white structure with a big ark at the entrance. This

school teaches from 1st grade to 12th grade. The education in this school was pretty

good from 1st to 6th grade. The teachers really cared about the student, they were

really nice and comprehensive with the students. In this phase I had a lot of friends

and I used to know everyone in my school because it wasn’t a very big school. It

became a problem when I enter high school. I still had my friends but the education

got worse. The teachers didn’t know their subject, didn’t leave any homework, didn’t

have control over the students, everyone did what they wanted and my mother

noticed that there was a problem with this school and decided to move me to another

one that is called Academia Interamericana de Panama.

The 12th of February of 2012 was my first day in the new school. It was all-

different from the old one. The AIP was a big school and I didn’t know any single

person. In the morning my parents left me at the school and I walk through the hall

and arrive to where the classes where. It was very different; there were 4 rooms per

grade instead of 2. I began to walk to my class, which was the 9D. I saw a lot of people

that I had never seen in my life so I walked in and sat in the left corner at the end of

the class. I saw everyone entering the class and saying hi to everyone. Then the bell

rang and the professor entered. His name was Dave Barrera. He made each of the new

students to stand in the front and introduce our selves. The first one to go was I; I sat

in front of the entire class and said my name, my age and what was my last school

while everyone was looking at me. It was like this with every professor.

In front of my sit there was a girl, she had very long hair and was kind of small.

She turned around and began asking me questions and she talk to me. She was the

first person ever to talk to me in the school. I felt really relieved and less nervous

when finally someone in the school, in which I didn’t know anyone, talked to me for

the first time. When the recess bell rang, everyone in the room got out fast and happy

to talk to their friends and I didn’t really knew anyone except for one new kid that I

knew a little bit so I stayed with him the entire recess. We saw everyone talking and

how there were a lot of different groups of friends that were already formed so it was

kind of difficult to enter a group in which we didn’t knew anyone. At the end of the day

I had just spoken to five or six persons so it was on this point that I knew it was going

to be kind of difficult to be part of a group.

Three months from my first day I had made a couple of friends and I was

getting into a group. This was the first step of the awesome friends I made latter on. I

felt really relieve to hang out with new friends instead of going around the school with

the only one person I knew. The months passed through and each day I was getting

more and more involved in this new community and each day I felt more part of the

new school, but it wasn’t until my second year that I started making really good

friends.

My first days of school in the AIP were not easy at all. I didn’t felt that I was

part of this school until later on but for me it was worth it. The kind of friends and the

kind of education that I received at this school is the best thing that I have received in

my entire life. I have made a lot of friends and there are a couple of best friends. This

transition in my life was very difficult but worth it. I ended up with a quality of

education that I was not going to receive in any other place and I made friends that

are irreplaceable.
