Lesson Introduction
 Introducing the topic  Make sure students are all settled before conducting lesson.
 Engagement of the  Explain to students that today’s lesson will be based on why different everyday

 Ask two students to collect science books from the shelves and hand them out to
the students.
 Play ‘Materials for Kids’ YouTube Clip on IWB.

 As the video is playing pause throughout when the different materials pop up and
get the students to write the characteristics that the video talks about.
 Copy the materials and their characteristics onto the whiteboard that way students
can follow along.

 Explain to students that we are going to use the knowledge to fill out the sheet
regarding materials that are used to build a house and their characteristics.
 Choose one of the different parts and explain to the student’s what material is used
and their characteristics.
 Copy this information onto the IWB where the handout is displayed, this way
students will be able to copy down this information.
 Choose another part of the house, but this time ask the students to identify the
material used and their properties.
 Copy this information onto the IWB where the handout is displayed, this way

 Complete the previous two steps until all parts of the house are completed.

Lesson Conclusion  Ask students to close their books and get two new students to collect the books and
