Identification of Bullying and unhealthy psychological environment
in education

 Introduction
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or
perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over
time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.
Bullying do have some serious effects on the psychology of bullied person and likely to impact
their abilities and make them mentally unstable.
 Statement of problem
Bullying is a problem that affects all students, either the person the bully, the victims, and those
who witnesses. Bullying may include verbal, physical assaults, threats, jokes or language,
mockery and criticizing, insulting behavior and facial expressions. All of such factors work
either individually, or collectively, for contributing in students’ likelihood of bullying. It is well
known that bullying is difficult to eliminate or to stop it in schools because it is used by students.
Bullying in education has various impact, among such impact is the academic achievement.
Therefore the research problem is to determine the impact of school bullying on students’
academic achievement from teachers’ point of view,
 Objectives
The study aimed to achieve the following objectives:
i. To understand the extent, seriousness and long-lasting effects of bullying.
ii. Recognizing and responding, early and effectively to the behavior of both victim and
victor so that we can prevent the psychological effects of bullying.
iii. To know the latest and effective strategies for controlling bullying.
iv. To create a classroom environment in which all the students feel comfortable and
reliable.

 Need of study
We are discussing this topic to secure and for the betterment of future of students that are
being bullied so that they do not suffer the consequences of bullying. We need to find new
method to reduce bullying and to make sure that students recognize that they should know if
they are bullying are being bullied by others. Bullying can cause the poor performance of
student which then evolve to other big problems.
 Review of literature
Mehta et al. (2013) found that when students feel that bullying is a phenomenon in their
school, they feel that they are unsafe which reflected on less engaged in school community.
Therefore they have less motivation to do well at school and they do not participate in school
activities. Bullying affects student’s academic achievement in various ways. Ammermueller
(2012) found that being bullied has a significantly negative impact on present and future
students’ performance in school.
Brank et al. (2012) indicated that bullying victims are weak, shy, and anxious. They added
that victims’ performance is poor in school and seek to avoid attending school classes for the
purpose of avoiding victimization. Victimization experiencing can lead to poor academic
performance and leading to absenteeism. Skapinakis et al. (2011) found that victims were
more likely to report suicidal thoughts than were bullies.
 Methodology
In order to solve a problem, we should properly go through it. Sometime, due to
incomplete data we deduce wrong assumptions which lead to wrong solutions.
i. Population and Sampling
The targeted population consisted of all males and females’ teachers of University and
school. A convenient sample was selected totaling 220 teachers for the two classes from
university and school,
ii. Talking sessions
For bullying we should adopt a comprehensive and simple method, that is to confront the
victims by talking and asking about their problems. We have to observe the victim’s
behavior keenly and point out the changes such as lack of confidence, hesitation, lack of
attention, poor performance in studies and another likely phenomenon. After analyzing
the problem, we should try to make them open to us by simply encouraging them and
involving them with other class.
 Data collection
Data collection is also a major part of this problem-solving cycle. It includes the method or
possible ways to point out that whether the student is bullying or not. Basically it does not
bound only to victims rather with the help of this data we can also point out the victor and
possibly help them to change their attitude.
As mentioned above the best way to point out a victim is to analyze or observe the behavior,
body language, participation in class, grades in school and interaction with other students to
collect the primary data. Another way is that we can question students to point out such cases
in class and help them. Books, periodicals, journals, references and the internet were used for
collecting the required secondary data
