LIFE IN OUR VILLAGE by Matie Markwei

1. What message is conveyed in the 1st stanza? 2nd stanza and 3rd stanza?

The poem which has 3 stanzas of unequal lines, the first stanza talks about the reason why
boys and girls must not play together, second stanza stated the reason why boys and girls didn’t heed
the advice and played together, the third and the final stanza was about the outcomes of the boys and
girls that play together.

2. What themes can you imply each of the stanza?

The themes of every stanzas that can imply is in the first stanza is the theme of irresistibility
because part of the poem was that boys and girls could not help it but play together in spite of elders’
warnings and reasons. Second stanza is the theme of delinquency because it was showed that youths
will always be youths and there are prone to misconduct due to their stubbornness and lack of broad
experience of life. The last stanza is the theme of disillusionment in the part of the poem was that play
was given a different picture from what the youth knew it to be but they broke such illusion of play by
playing together.

3. Can you relate the poem in to your experience? Why and how?

I cannot relate the poem to my personal experience, because since I was a child, I was
playing with my girl cousins but games that can play even you are a boy or girl like tumbalata,
luksong baka and so much more. However, me and my other boy cousins have different games if other
girl cousins and friends had played their own dolls then boys don’t join them and other of that we are
free to play even you are a boy or a girl unless you are not allowed your parents for some instance.
