d. Review
Yesterday our lesson is all about

Claim, Cite, Evidence, and Validity

What is a claim? (Ma’am, A claim is when you express

your right to something that belongs to
you, like your medical records or the deed
to your home. When you make a claim or
claim something, you're demanding it or
saying it's true.)

What are the 3 types of claim? (Ma’am, There are three kinds of claim.
these are Claim of fact, Claim of Value,
Very good! So there are three types of and Claim of Policy )
Claim.

What are the 2 kinds of Evidence? There are 2 kinds of evidence the
Empirical and Anecdotal Evidence

What is definition Anecdotal Anecdotal Evidence consist of an

Evidence? anecdote or descriptive story about an
( The Teacher will call one student) event or experience.

Magnificent! Anecdotal evidence is

also called testimonial evidence.

I’m glad that all of you remember our last

discussion.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

1. Motivation
Before we start our discussion, we will watch
a video, it is a short clip of a cartoon
depicting Bank robbery. (VIDEO LINK)

Have you enjoyed watching the video? ( Yes, Ma’am )

I have three questions regarding the video

What is the video all about? ( Ma’am, I think the video is all
( The teacher will call one student) about a robbery)

What did the main character took from the ( The main character took money from
bank? the bank)
( The teacher calls another student)

Very good! The main character took money

from the bank and placed it inside a bag.

Last question, Do you think the main

character left his fingerprint in the bank and ( Yes, Ma’am because during the robbery
do you think that evidence can hold him the thief has touch some surface and
accountable for his crime? materials inside the bank and his
fingerprint can be used against him as
( The teacher calls a student) evidence in a trial )
Very good! I hope that you enjoyed our
activity.

1. Presentation
Our discussion for today is about Kinds of
Evidence in Arguments

First let us define what is Evidence

Kindly read the definition of Evidence? (Evidence is anything used to determine

(The Teacher will ask one student) or demonstrate the use of assertion.
Evidence is anything that you see,
experience, read, or are told that causes
you to believe that something is true or
has really happened.
It is the information which is used in a
court of law to try to prove something.
It is obtained from documents, objects, or
witnesses.)

There are two kinds of evidence we have in

an Argument, Direct and Indirect Evidence.

First we have Direct Evidence Direct Evidence is any piece of evidence

Please kindly read the definition. that stands alone to prove an argument.
Very good! Direct evidence is evidence, that
if believed, directly proves a fact in issue. It is a piece of evidence often in the form
Directly means that a person does not have to of the testimony of witnesses or
make any inferences or presumptions as to eyewitness accounts.
proof.

Kindly read the first examples of Direct ( Security camera showing a footage of a
Evidence? person breaking in a store or stealing
( The Teacher calls one student) item)

Very good! That is an example of direct

evidence. For the camera footage clearly
indicates that the thief was caught on camera
stealing items.

(An audio recording of a person admitting

Kindly read the second examples of Direct to committing a crime)
Evidence?
( The Teacher calls one student)

Very good! An audio of a criminal confessing

to his crime is an example of direct evidence.
( Ballistic test that show a bullet was fired
Kindly read the third examples of Direct by an specific firearm )
Evidence?
( The Teacher calls one student)

Very good! Because ballistic test is done to

identify who is the owner of the firearms.
And the owner might be the perpetrator of a
crime.

The last example of Direct Evidence is an

eyewitness testimony that saw the defendant
or suspect commit a crime.

A testimony is a strong evidence where a

witness has seen the criminal committing a
crime.

As long as the witness has no background of

dishonesty and reliability. His or her
testimony can be considered a strong
evidence.

Second type of evidence is Indirect or

Circumstantial evidence

What is Circumstantial evidence?

Indirect/Circumstantial Evidence is a set of

facts that, when taken together, lead to the
desired conclusion.
Evidence is based on suggestion rather than
personal knowledge.
It requires a logical reasoning to prove a fact.

Kindly read the first example of Indirect

evidence. (Fingerprints or hairs found at the scene
( The Teacher calls one student ) are consistent that it belongs to a
perpetrator.)
Very good! The jury might consider that the
finger print and hair found at the crime scene
might belong to the perpetrator linking him to
the crime

Examples of Indirect evidence are:

PHYSICAL EXAMPLES: bullets, weapons,
fibers, tool, marks etc.
BIOLOGICAL EXAMPLES: Fluids, Hair,
( These are physical evidence and biological
examples that suggests criminal activity )

There are three types of Indirect evidence

these are physical evidence, biological
evidence and trace evidence.

That is our lesson for today, I hope that you

have learned a lot.

That is our lesson for today, I hope that you

learned a lot.
2. Generalization
(
What is evidence? Evidence is anything used to determine or
demonstrate the use of assertion.)

Very good! Define Direct evidence

Direct Evidence is any piece of evidence
that stands alone to prove an argument.
It is a piece of evidence often in the form
of the testimony of witnesses or
eyewitness accounts.

Splendid! Give atleast one example of

Indirect evidence. ( Ma’am, a fingerprint or hair is an
example of indirect evidence that can be
use in a trial against a defendant)

Very good! I’m glad that you learned a

lot from our topic today.

(This part must be after the discussion before your generalization)
