relating bias/prejudice in the

“Now, let’s move forward for

today’s topic.”
“Sir, bias has something to do in favoring
“BIAS and PREJUDICE” someone and prejudice is something about
discrimination.”
“Do you have any idea what is
bias and what is prejudice?” “Bias is an unfair treatment while
prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is
“Yes, that is correct. May I hear not actually based on personal
another idea?” experience.”

“Okay, very good. All of you have

an idea from what is bias and
prejudice. Today, we will discuss
about it more.”

c) Discussion
“Now, let us differentiate bias and
prejudice.”

“Miss Aquino please read.” (Student read)

Bias - the word “bias” can be defined as a

lack of objectivity or an inclination to favor
one person or thing over another. It may
also be defined as an inclination of a
person’s personality or outlook which can
result into a personal and sometimes
unreasoned judgment.

“Let us have some examples.”

 Gender Bias - If an HR officer has a

bias TOWARDS men, he/she might
hire only men because he/she might
believe they will better employees in
the company. While, if an HR officer
has a bias AGAINST men, he/she
might hire a woman than a man
even if that man has a better
qualification for the job.
SAINT MICHAEL’S COLLEGE OF LAGUNA
OLD NATIONAL ROAD, PLATERO, BIÑAN CITY, LAGUNA

 Religion Bias - If a person has a bias

TOWARDS his/her own religion,
he/she might think that his/her
religion’s beliefs and practices is
better or superior to other religions.
Whereas, if a person has a bias
AGAINST a specific religion, he/she
might give bad or rude comments or
even criticize that religion’s beliefs
and practices.
 Political Bias - If a person has a bias
TOWARDS a certain politician or
political party, that person might
tend to speak positive things about
the politician that belongs to that
political party. However, if a person
has a bias AGAINST that certain
political party, he/she might not
support or quickly disagree with
others who have opposite political
opinion or view with him/her.

“I have here a short clip and I want you to

describe your insights about it.” “Bias could be seen in the video because of
unfair label between men and women.”
(Plays the video)
(1494) Pantene 'Labels Against Women'
Digital Ad - YouTube

“What have you noticed?” “Because putting label is how we see

others in a negative way or negative side.”
“That is correct. The video shows that men
are superior to women by giving them
unfair labels.”

“When you put ‘label’ on someone, how do

you become biased?”

“Yes, that is right. Giving someone a label is

like something you are ousting them from
the others. It’s like you are giving them a
favor or in opposite.” “C. It is believed that Ana won the
contest because of her close

such as letters, diaries, etc., they are often
carelessly biased since they are generally
intended for a certain or specific audience

ASYNCHRONOUS TASK
I. Directions: Read and analyze the paragraphs below. Determine the sentence or part
of the paragraph that shows bias or prejudice. Identify the keyword being described
by the paragraph and the image by arranging the given clue letters of this box.

1. Around the world, it is much more

difficult for women to find a career
than for men. Employers prefer to
run high-quality jobs using male
workers. The view of accepting
women for change is difficult in the
immediate future. It is assumed
that when it comes to manpower,
a woman cannot replace the
talents and abilities of a man.
Thus, an organization only hires
and employs men, and women are
left at home.
