III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Preliminary Activity
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Classroom Management
Review

“Last meeting we tried to define one-act play “Yes, Ma’am!”

and its elements, right?”

Great! Let’s sum up what you have learned and

see if you truly understand last meeting’s
lesson.

Motivation

To start with the lesson, students are to guess

a picture of the following movies posted on the
board. They are given 5 seconds to look and
analyze the picture and another 5 seconds to
state the title of the movie.
“If you know those movies or are interested
about them, you have an idea what you like to
watch.”

A. Activity

Students will read an example of a summary or

as what we call synopsis of a story entitled “The
Hunger games.” To be followed by a
processing questions.
In what was once North America, the Capitol of
Panem maintains its hold on its 12 districts by
forcing them each to select a boy and a girl,
called Tributes, to compete in a nationally
televised event called the Hunger Games.
Every citizen must watch as the youths fight to
the death until only one remains. District 12
Tribute Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence)
has little to rely on, other than her hunting skills
and sharp instincts, in an arena where she
must weigh survival against love.

B. Analysis
“What can you observed from the text you
read?”
“What is the book about as a whole?”
“Do you have an idea about what you have
read?”

The text you read is an example of a summary

or a synopsis. And today, we will be discussing
on the types and features of a play synopsis.

Before we proceed to our lesson let me discuss

what you are expected to do.

At the end of the lesson the students are

expected to:
• define synopsis;
• identify the types and features of a play
synopsis; and
• write your own synopsis on a story.

C. Abstraction

Before we watch a movie, read a book or watch

a play at the theatre, we would like to know
what the story is about first. And that’s where
synopsis comes in.

For example: I have these book right here, but

I’m not quite sure if I would like to read it,
considering that there are so many other books
to choose from.

So for me to be able to decide if I want to read

this book I will read a synopsis written at the
back of the book to see what it is the story all
about.

We can simply read the synopsis of a certain

movie or a story that we think we might like and
decide for ourselves if we like it or not, or if it
something that resembles the things that we
like.

Now before we can write our own synopsis. We

need to understand what a synopsis is all
about.

Synopsis are useful summaries that are written

for the benefit of a potential reader or audience.
It gives an overview and a sneak peek at a
work.
It gives necessary details to understand any
long pieces of creative fiction e.g. play.

Play – it is a literary form of writing for theater

which narrates a story with elements of
conflicts, tensions, and actions through
dialogues of characters.

There are 5 types of Play

1. Tragedy – these type of plays ends on a
tragic note and most likely a character’s
death.
2. Comedy – these types of plays are
meant to amuse the audience, and they
end on a happy note.
3. Domestic Play – these types of play are
based on the normal life of family and
friends.
4. Tragicomedy – it is a fictional work
comprises of both tragedy as well as
comedy.
5. Melodrama – this type of play has often
exaggerated characters and episodes
with songs and music for an emotive
appeal to the audiences.

Guidelines to Writing a Good Plot Summary

 The time and place should be indicated

at the beginning of the synopsis
 A brief description of the main
characters should be given as they
appear in the story.
 The synopsis should begin at the
opening of the story and told in the
same order as the play, and end at the
play’s conclusion.
 Dramatic scenes that propel the story
forward, including climatic scenes
should be described within the synopsis.
 The synopsis must be no longer than
250 words long.
 The story must be told in the present
tense and in the third person.
 When telling the story, dialogue should
not be included.

He spends 20 years in jail, gets out and
remakes himself as new man and the mayor of
a town. He rescues the child of a poor woman

that he is changed and haunts the man, but
when they encounter each during the French
Revolution, the former thief lets the detective do
with his life.

desperately to become human so that the man
will fall in love with her as well. After giving her
voice to a sea witch, she is eventually able to
triumph and become human so she can live
happily ever after with the man she loves.
