 Displays

Setting up and starting operation
of respiratory gas humidifier PMH5000
1 Respiratory gas humidifier must be
clean and dry.
2 Fasten respiratory gas humidifier
horizontally and safe, e.g. by means of
the existing retainer. Respiratory gas
humidifier must be mounted below
patient‘s level!
3 Attach humidifier chamber onto
respiratory gas humidifier and lock
till you can hear it (Figure 1).
4 Fill humidifier chamber at the most up
to maximum level with sterile water.
5 Connect therapy apparatus with inlet
pipe-end of humidifier chamber
(short hose).
6 In general, the operating instructions
for each respective humidifier chamber
shall be observed.
7 Connect plugs for heaters at the patient
hoses with the respective connection
cables (Figure 2). Make sure not to
interchange inspiratory and expiratory
side! Disposable hose systems are
connected via an additional electric
adapter (“Dispo adapter”).
8 Connect temperature measuring probe
with the connection cable provided
at the respiratory gas humidifier
(Figure 2).

Plug in both temperature probe

the patient hose system.
9 Check all connections for proper
and tight fit.
10 Switch on therapy apparatus first,
then respiratory gas humidifier.
Before switching on respiratory
gas humidifier, make sure that
respiratory gas flows freely up to
the outlet.
11 Preset close-to-patient temperature
at the respiratory gas humidifier:
Press + or – and wait until the
displayed setpoint temperature
changes. Press + or – repeatedly if
necessary (Figure 3).
12 Preset humidifier chamber temperature
at the respiratory gas humidifier:
Holding changeover switch depressed
(Figure 4), simultaneously press + or –.
Press + or – repeatedly if necessary.
13 The respiratory gas humidifier
requires a warm-up period of 20 - 30
minutes until the preset temperature
is reached.

 PMH5000 Respiratory Gas Humidifier
The PMH5000 warms and humidifies respiratory gas that is supplied to the patient.
The PMH5000 is applicable in combination with respirators, bi-level and CPAP devices
for mask respiration as well as for intubated patients.

General notes

operating instructions.

Also when heating wires are switched

on, condensation water may form inside
the patient hose system during operation.

Cleaning Disturbances
Do not sterilize basic unit or immerse it
in water! Do not sterilize temperature
measuring probe! Basic unit and
temperature measuring probe can be
cleaned with mild a cleaning agent such
as, for example, WILAsil. Disinfection is
achieved by wiping using an aldehyde-
free, alcohol-based quick-disinfection
preparation. For detailed instructions on
cleaning and care of the apparatus please
refer to the technical description.
Maintenance A humidifier chamber, e.g. PMC500
Any intrusion on the apparatus –
also maintenance, tasting, calibration –
must only be performed by trained
service technicians. For details please
refer to the technical description.
In case of disturbances, the respiratory
gas humidifier must be disconnected from
the mains and the authorized repair
service shall be notified.
Accessories
For operating the PMH5000 at least the
following will additionally be needed:
One or two respiratory hose(s)
coordinated with the length of the heating
wire, e.g. 120 cm (Order No. 270.146)
reusable (Order No. 550.183)
A wide selection of respiratory hoses
and hose systems for one-time use as
well as for multiple application you‘ll find
in the WILAmed product catalog.
Waste disposal
When disposing basic device and/or
accessories, the respective regulations
in force shall be observed.

 Warnings
Danger of electric shock!
Operate respiratory gas humidifier on
an outlet with properly functioning
ground wire only!
Potential explosion risk!
Do not use near flammable anesthetics!
Make sure no anesthesia agent
dissociation takes place!
Always position respiratory gas
humidifier below therapy apparatus and
below patient‘s level!
Operating instructions for
accessories must be observed!
Any use of humidifier chambers,
hose systems, and accessories that were
not released by WILAmed may derogate
the operational safety of the system.
Water for filling humidifiers chambers
should not be warmer than 37°C!
Fill humidifier chamber up to the
maximum filling mark at the most.
When filling level is exceeded, water
from the humidifier chamber could swash
over to the patient hose system.

Danger of burns! Heating plate can
reach temperatures of more than 85°C.
Do not touch heating plate while in
operation!
Temperature of respiratory gas
administered may exceed 41°C if
temperature sensor is improperly
installed and connected.
Make sure therapy apparatus
functions properly and therapy
parameters are preset correctly
before connecting patient hose
system with the patient.
Before connecting patient hose
system with the patient, respiratory gas
must flow through the humidifier chamber.
Danger of burns! Do not cover up
respiratory hose system with insulating
materials (e.g. cloths, blankets). Hose
system must not touch the patient.
A minimum flow of respiratory gas
inside the hose system is necessary
at all times to avoid overheating.
 The temperature of respiratory gas
administered must be checked in
regular intervals. When temperature of
respiratory gas administered is too high,
burns of the patient‘s respiratory tract
may occur.

When administering of respiratory

gas is interrupted, switch off apparatus
or – when reasonable – switch it to
“therapy pause” mode.

Pull out mains plug before any

maintenance or inspection work and
before any checking because of alarms
at the respiratory gas humidifier.

When apparatus is operated outside

the specified ambient temperature range,
its humidifying capacity may be impaired.
