Abstract
In this article, the relationship between philosophy and literature has been
examined from the points of view of existence, thought, language, writings of
literature and philosophy, culture and civilization. Then, the issue of whether
philosophy or literature is the domineering factor has been raised. Later, ‘the
philosophical novel’, the production of the interaction between philosophy and
literature has been defined; such questions as what the structure of the
philosophical novel is like, what sort of work it is, what the nature of the work is
like, when and how it emerged and how it developed have been answered. The
criteria for a literary work of art in order that it be considered as philosophical
have been determined. As it is very well-known philosophical and literary writings
have certain characteristics under which the work is produced. A work of literature,
for instance, which is producedunder the influence of existentialism, possessessome
features which make it be considered as philosophical. Reference to philosopher-
writers and writer-philosophers from the Ancient Greece to the present day has been
made, as well.
Consequently,it has been determined that a sound and safe use of language is
necessaryin order to achieve the sound and vivid body of thought which exist in
philosophical Works.
1. Giriş
2. Felsefe-Edebiyat:
Hattâ, Hegel’in yapıtlarının, neredeyse muğlaklığın destanı olduğu bile
Yazar,
betimlemelerindeki nesnelerin algılanış biçimiyle gerçeğin bir kesitine yaklaştığını
savunur ve genellikle de insanın bilincindeki ‘şimdiki zaman’ da yazmayı sürdürür;
düşüncede her zaman yeniden yaratılır.
sayar. Ona göre, eğer akıl yürütme, kesinliğe götürürse, o burhâni yani
ispatlayıcı4; iyi niyet yoluyla kesinliğe benzer bir anlayışa götürürse
diyalektik; eğer, art niyet ve yanlışlıkla kesinliğe yakın sonuçlara götürürse
safsata; muhtemel fikirlere yöneltirse hitâbî5; nihayet, ruha zevk veya acı
veren, duygulara hitap ederek hayallere sevk ederse şiirseldir.
Descartes’a göre, bütün bilgilerin
sözcükler birtakım göstergelerdir. Anlık, bu göstergelerle düşünür;

Abstract

plays in the world literature. But before he wrote these plays, Pirandello wrote
poems, then tales and novels. Especially his tales are very important texts because

they have been the backstage to his plays. To analyse these plays we must study very
well some of the concepts as: the dilemma of “dream-truth” and “mask-face”, the
structure of “play in a play”, “mirror theather” and “relativism”. Studying all
these terms means understanding Pirandello. Between the most important plays of
Pirandello we can count on “Six persons search their own author”, “Henry the
IV.th”, “Everyone is on his own way”, “If it seems like that to you, it’s like that”,
“But this is not a serious thing”.

hükümdarları Kraliçe Isabella ve Kral Ferdinand’a yazdığı mektupta (1493)

Abstract
Propemptikon and Epibaterion Verses
The purpose of this study is to display the themes and styles of the poetical
compositions in propemptikon and epibaterion verses. In the study firstly the
explanations and the rules prescribed by Rhetor Menander are examined. Then
verses about the voyage in the Greek, Hellenistic and Roman periods are looked
closely at which elements of propemptikon, epibaterion verses and how the
composing of them are presented. A thorough examination reveals that poets
composing verses related to voyage keep to the traditional narration basically even
if there are some differences in the details.

içinde işlendiğini irdelemek ve Bakhtin’in kuramsallaştırdığı söylesimsel (diyalojik)
ilişkinin, romanda oluşan çoğulluğu incelemeye elverişli diyalektik bir çerçeve
sunduğunu vurgulamaktır.

Abstract
Iris Murdoch’s highly-acclaimed novel Under the Net has often been studied in
relation to the moral and philosophical issues that the novel raises. While the
novel’s playful representation of these issues in the form of fiction is certainly
significant, the question of how these issues are presented and voiced in the novel is
equally noteworthy. Therefore, this study explores how Murdoch’s novel masterfully
blends a multitude of philosophically compelling voices through which a multi-
faceted debate on the notions of language, theory and truth is rendered possible.
Thus, the aim of this essay is to look into the various ways in which these voices,
conveyed by the characters, are weaved together in a polyphonic narrative, and to

argue that Bakhtin’s dialogic interrelation provides a dialectic frame to engage with
the prevalent plurality constructed in the novel.
Iris Murdoch’s first published novel Under the Net (1957) is a highly
stylised narrative that offers a debate on the notion of fantasy and the search
for truth, ideas which are projected through Murdoch’s protagonist Jake
Donaghue’s journey from his self-inflicted illusion towards self-awareness.
Thus, the novel has often been described as “a philosophical adventure
story” (Conradi, 2001:384), best read as a “light comedy” (Leavis,
1988:139). Obviously, Under the Net harbours comic propensities such as
“chases, lockings in and lockings out” (Bradbury, 1962:47), incidents
illustrating the so-called “parasite”1 Jake’s adventures. Yet, the incorporation
of comic elements into the narrative, arguably, functions as a way to reveal,
as in Cheryl Bove’s words, “the accidental and contingent features of human
existence” (Bove, 1986:6). For Murdoch, “comedy is the proper aesthetic
mode for the novel and is a philosophical and moral necessity for art” in
order to represent “the contingent dimensions of reality” (quoted in Hague,
1984:48). Hence, Murdoch’s exploitation of comedy in Under the Net
elucidates her statement, in that Jake’s humorous adventures come to signify
his ultimate assent to the “picaresque sea of contingency in which he, like
everyone is immersed” (Conradi, 1994:331-332).
Much of the critical work2 on Under the Net has laid emphasis on the
novel’s anti-existentialist stance in relation to the transformation of

Under The Poliphony of Voices: A Bakhtinian Reading 69
Yet, the dialogic, as Lodge has argued, is “not restricted to the subtle
and complex interweaving of various types of speech3 – direct [mimesis],
indirect [diegesis] and doubly-oriented” (Lodge, 1990b:154). It also
“includes the relationship between the characters’ discourses and the
author’s discourse (if presented in the text) and between all these discourses
and other discourses outside the text which are imitated or evoked or alluded
to by means of doubly-oriented speech” (Lodge, 1990b:154). Murdoch’s
writing employs mostly this aspect of dialogic interrelation as it subtly
reveals “the relations of words to actions” (Bradbury, 1962:47). Even though
Under the Net came out earlier than Bakhtin’s theorisation of the dialogic
imagination, it could be argued that it pre-empts Bakhtin’s conceptualisation
of the discursive polyphonic novel, in that the novel both employs the
inherent dialogism of language, in other words “the linguistic variety of
prose fiction” (Lodge, 1990b:154), and offers a subtle presentation of
polyphonic voices. In so doing, it accomodates Bakhtin’s conceptualisation
3
For Bakhtin the dialogic nature of language enables a polyphonic dialogue between
the direct speech of the author (diegesis), the quoted direct speech of the characters
(mimesis), and the doubly-oriented speech (a discourse defined as both describing an
action and imitating a style of speech or writing).

In her later novels such as The Bell (1958) and The Black Prince (1973) Murdoch
presented characters (Dora Greenfield and Bradley Pearson respectively) who set
out on a journey of moral growth and self-awareness.

The modern novel, the serious novel, does tend toward either two
extremes: either it is a tight metaphysical object, which wishes it were
a poem, and which attempts to convey, often in mythical form, some
central truth about the human condition – or else it is a loose
journalistic epic, documentary or possibly even didactic in inspiration,
offering a commentary on current institutions or on some matter out of
history. We are offered things or truths. What we have lost is persons.
(Murdoch, 1959:265)
Under The Poliphony of Voices: A Bakhtinian Reading 73
For Murdoch, “crystalline works are usually the better ones” since they
exhibit a sense of “clearness” (Murdoch, 1977a:28). However, in her
interview with Frank Kermode in 1963, two years after the publication of
“Against Dryness”, she took a contradicting stance by assigning both of
these aspects to her conceptualisation of a well-written novel, and said:
tries an internal monologue, but discovers that the world is full of other
people whose views he has misinterpreted but can learn. […] No single view
of the world, no one vision, is shown to be adequate” (Byatt, 1976:19). It can
safely be asserted that Jake acquires, what Johnson calls, “a plurality of
vision” (Johnson, 1987:25), and this notion of plurality of vision could only
be established through the polyphony of voices, a state that is set against
monologism.
Under the Net reinforces this polyphonic vision through Jake’s public
and private interactions with other characters in the novel, ultimately
stressing the idea that all the characters are interconnected and diologically
interrelated right from the outset. The novel opens with Jake, “the literary
hack” (12), conveying his thoughts about his remote cousin Finn after his
journey back to England from France. There is a sense of superiority
embedded in his narrative at this stage. He considers himself “subtle” (9),
and describes Finn as his “servant” (8). He assigns certain roles to people
around him, and his self-confidence seems presumptuous for he thinks of
himself as a man of profundity compared to Finn. He says: “Finn misses his
inner life, and that is why he follows me about, as I have a complex one and
highly differentiated” (9). Jake and Finn find themselves in need of a new
place to live since Magdalen (Madge) throws them out as she is planning to
get engaged with the “diamond bookmaker” (15) Sammy Starfield. A former
lover, Anna is not much of help, yet her sister Sadie agrees to have Jake
around her house. Sadie leads Jake to another old acquaintance, Hugo
Belfounder – the philosopher in the novel – who takes a significant part in
Jake’s transformation.
Tamarus: So you would cut all speech, except the very simplest, out of
human life altogether.
Anandine: […] Only the greatest men can speak and still be truthful.
Any artist knows this obscurely; he knows that a theory is death, and
that all expression is weighted with theory. Only the strongest can rise
against that weight. For most of us truth, can be attained, if at all, only
in silence. […] This was something which the ancients understood.
(91-92)

The dialogue has been thought to be an allusion to a passage (6.341) in
Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logica-Philosophicus in terms of its exploration of the
ways to make the world intelligible.

that the translation is exactly right? Are you imagining what someone
else would think, seeing it for the first time? (65)
It is significant to note that after his interaction with Hugo, Jake comes
to see the weaknesses in his work, and starts to question the accuracy and
soundness of his prose writing, “The Silencer”, which is based on his
dialogues with Hugo. He comments on his endeavour as follows:
The curious thing was that I could see quite clearly that this work was
from start to finish an objective justification of Hugo’s attitude. That
is, it was a travesty and falsification of our conversations. Compared
with them it was a pretentious falsehood. […] Some of the most
illuminating moments of our talk had been those which, if recorded,
would have sounded the flattest. But these I could never bring myself
to record with the starkness which they had had in reality. (70)
Jake defines his work as “travesty” (70), and affirms Hugo’s conclusion that
“language just won’t let [one] present it as it really was” (67), for no
language can be an ultimate medium to express truth. In line with this, Hugo
thinks that “all stories are lies” (91) since they conceal the world as much as
language and theory. For Hugo, it is only “actions” which “don’t lie” (68),
and the remaining part of “The Silencer” engages with this issue in depth:
Annandine: […] Has a theory helped you when you were in doubt
about what to do? Are not these very simple moments when theories
are shilly-shallying? And don’t you realise this very clearly at such
moments?
Tamarus: […] there are theories abroad in the world, political ones for
instance, so we have to deal with them in our thoughts.
are tabby, instead of their all being half tabby and half Siamese” (285). Jake
replies by saying, “it is just one of the wonders of the world” (286), a
statement which signals Jake’s transformation. Jake’s newly-acquired view
that life is momentary and transient, overlaps with what Wittgenstein put
forth in Tractatus: “In the world everything is as it is and happens as it does
happen” (quoted in Murdoch, 1977b:47). By accepting a world of
contingency, Jake gets rid of his solipsism and his “dryness”, and is ready to
embrace a new “pattern of life” (127). More importantly, he realises that he
is not the centre of the world, and that his friends and acquaintances have
their own lives in which he is rather one of the many figures situated under
the net.
Thus, the net in the title of the book has been discussed in relation to the
net of “philosophical theorising” (Turner, 1993:17). However, for Murdoch
“the net under which one could not get” is “the net of language” (quoted in
Spear, 1995:21). In fact, Murdoch’s dedication of her novel to the great
French linguist Raymond Queneau hints at the significance of language for
her work. However, the dedication of the novel to Queneau does not
necessarily imply that the novel is going to present a playful engagement
with language as Queneau did in his Exercises in Style (1947). In Under the
Net, Murdoch brings a complex representation of language, that is,
“language moving towards silence, and the difficulty of relating concepts to
anything which lies behind them” (Spear, 1995:21). Yet, as this essay has
argued, an exploration of the text as a polyphonic novel could enable one to
“crawl” (91) under the net. In other words, it is under the polyphony of
voices that the net could be unveiled and made intelligible.

1890).
Ancak, “Taş Bebek”, Balzac, Flaubert veya Tolstoy tipi klasik realist
roman şemasından birçok bakımdan farklılık gösterir. Prus’un bağımsız ve
açık kompozisyon biçimindeki anlatımı, tanrısal konumdaki yazar-anlatıcı
rolünün belirgin biçimde kısıtlanmış olması, özellikle iç ve dış
perspektiflerden yararlanarak ve kahramanların yaşadıklarında ortaya çıkan
psikolojik unsurları vurgulayarak yapıt kahramanlarının eylem ve
karakterlerinin objektif biçimde sunulması “Taş Bebek”in, roman türünün
Bu açıdan bakıldığında, “Taş Bebek”in

As Sartre believes that the relationship between the self and the Other is
not reciprocal, he further explains how the individual manipulates the Other
in his Being and Nothingness. He claims that the human being is subjected to
the “Look of the Other” which is a threat to the self since the Other might try
to objectify the individual so as to establish his own subjectivity. The world
of the self is haunted by the Other’s values over which the individual has no
control. Sartre asserts that the presence of “the Look of the Other” is “a limit
of my freedom … it is given to me as a burden which I have to carry without
ever being able to turn back to know it, without even being able to realize its
weight” (Sartre, 1989:262). Furthermore, the being of the self is determined
by “the Look of the Other” who tries to objectify people around him while
trying to escape from his own state as a “being-in-itself”. In other words, he
has to nullify the existence of the other to assert his own identity. Sartre
(1989:262) elucidates that “the Other has to make my being-for-him be in so
far as he has to be his being.” The subjectivity and the freedom of the Other
depends on the loss of the integrity of the self. The human being who is
observed by the Other is left to be a “defenceless being for a freedom which
is not” his freedom. He continues: “While I seek to enslave the Other, the
Other seeks to enslave me […] Conflict is the original meaning of being-for-
others” (Sartre, 1989:364). In this aspect, the self can regard himself as the
“slave” of the Other and his Look, both of which can result in fear, shame
and pride of the self as a reaction against the enslaving look (Sartre,
1989:267-68). In order not to be objectified and lose the subjectivity, the self
is involved in a never-ending competition in which he tries to prove his
existence to himself and to the people around him. To do this, he has to
control the Other and the Other’s freedom.
(1965:9) explains that the plays “express a sense of shock at the loss of any
clear and well-defined systems of beliefs and values”.
To begin with, in the The Zoo Story, Albee’s first play, Jerry requires
the Other to look at, to listen and to react in order to ascertain his own
existence to himself and to the people around him. The play deals with the
Sartrean Look In The Zoo Story And A Delicate Balance 99
Jerry is a lonely figure, which plunges him into a vacuum in his life due
to the fact that he has no one, not even a friend or family, to affirm his
identity. From his account, it is made clear that he was left by his mother
when he was ten years old, and then looked after by his aunt until she died.
What he has about his past and his family is only two empty picture frames,
which are the epitome of his loneliness. When Peter tries to build empathy
with Jerry over the issue, Jerry replies: “But that was a long ago, and I have
no feeling about any of it that I care to admit to myself” (Albee, 1959:395).
Moreover, his present lonely life does not seem to be different from his past
loneliness as he lives on his own in a “rooming house” in which there are all
kinds of people. He explains:
Though a great many people live in the same block, Jerry does not have
any relationship with them. He continues to tell Peter:
(Albee, 1959:393)
Peter, an ordinary man in his early forties, does not at first react to
Jerry’s tendency to have conversation. Jerry, on the other hand, is
determined to have a talk with Peter; thus, he starts to tell Peter about his zoo
experience, which does not seem to appeal to Peter much:
Jerry: I’ve been to the zoo. [Peter doesn’t notice] I said I’ve been to
the zoo. MISTER, I’VE
(Albee, 1959:389)
The second strategy Jerry uses to get the “look” of Peter is through
making him listen to what Jerry has told. First, he gives Peter an account of
his background; where he lives and what he possesses:
Sartrean Look In The Zoo Story And A Delicate Balance 101
Jerry: [G]ood old Mom and good old Pop are dead … you know? …
I’m broken up about it, too. I mean really. BUT. … [G]ood old Mom
walked out on good old Pop when I was ten and a half years old; she
embarked on an adulterous turn of our southern states.
(Albee, 1959:394)
What Jerry primarily aims is to capture Peter with his speech and
stories; in other words, Jerry manipulates the conversation by talking about
himself and forcing Peter to listen to him. By recounting his own life and
objectifying Peter in a state of listening, Jerry seems to get confirmation
about his existence from Peter.
The moment Jerry feels that Peter is dominating him through his
comments on his life, Jerry gets enraged on grounds that he does not want
his subjectivity to be taken away. When he talks about his relationship to a
Greek boy, he states:
Jerry: [A] Greek boy, whose birthday was the same as mine, except he
was a year older. I think
I was very much in love … maybe just with sex … And now; oh, do I
love the little bodies; really, I love them. For about an hour.
Jerry: [angry] Look! Are you going to tell me to get married and have
parakeets? (Albee, 1959:396)
What Jerry wants from Peter is to make him just listen, rather than
make comments. Indeed, Jerry gets defensive once he feels the threat of the
Other. He does not want to be judged by the other; on the contrary, he
requires Peter just to be silent while he is talking so that Jerry can feel
comfortable about who he is and why he exists.
Another long speech Jerry makes is about his landlady’s dog. Zimbardo
(1962:13) elucidates that “Jerry applies the knowledge he has gained from
his contact with the dog in trying to establish contact with Peter”. He has
learnt the inability of people’s communication through his experience with
the dog, and he expects Peter to comprehend this as well. Jerry says to him:
“What I am going to tell you has something to do with how sometimes it’s
necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short
distance correctly” (Albee, 1959:399). Jerry thinks that it is essential to teach
102 Gül Büyü
what he has learned from his experience with the dog to another person.
First, he starts telling Peter how different this dog is from the other
“indifferent” ones as it “snarls” or “sniffs” at Jerry. One day, he gives some
hamburgers to the dog to divert its attention to elsewhere; nonetheless, when
the interest of the dog in Jerry dies out, Jerry feels “offended”: “I expected
some reaction from him”, exclaims Jerry. (Albee, 1959:401) The
indifference of the dog maddens him to such an extent that he has decided to
kill it by poisoning. He says: “So, I decided to kill the dog. [Peter raises a
hand in protest.] Oh, don’t be so alarmed, Peter; I didn’t succeed. The day I
tried to kill the dog I bought only one hamburger and what I thought was a
murderous potion of rat poison” (Albee, 1959:401). Nonetheless, the failure
of Jerry’s attempt at killing the dog has taught him more significant things
about his existence, which he explains to Peter in his speech. After the
incidence, achieving a Sartrean look of the dog, he did not want it to die:
Hence, the dog and his efforts of killing it have taught Jerry that this
could be an opportunity to demonstrate his existence. He has commenced to
ascertain his identity through forming a kind of contact with the dog; then
expanded this action to establish a contact with human beings. He expresses
his views to Peter: “It’s just that if you can’t deal with people, you have to
make a start somewhere. WITH ANIMALS! [Much faster now, and like a
conspirator] Don’t you see? A person has to have some way of dealing with
SOMETHING. If not with people … if not with people … SOMETHING”
(Albee, 1959:401). He expects Peter to give a reaction for what he has told,
or at least show a sign that he has understood Jerry.
Realising Peter could not perceive what he has told him, Jerry decides
to set up a connection via physical violence such as tickling and punching
him so that Peter could confirm Jerry’s existence this time:
Jerry: [tickles Peter’s ribs with his fingers] Oh, come on.
Peter: [he’s very ticklish; as Jerry continues to tickle him his voice
becomes falsetto] No, I ….
Sartrean Look In The Zoo Story And A Delicate Balance 103
Ohh. Don’t do that. Stop, stop. Ohh … no, no. (Albee, 1959:407)
It is the fear of losing the Other to listen to him that impels Jerry to find
irritating ways to draw Peter’s attention; thus, after tickling, Jerry starts to be
harsher towards Peter by punching:
Peter: [very annoyed] I can’t move over any more, and stop hitting
me. What’s the matter with you? (Albee, 1959:409)
The more Peter owns up the bench, the more provocative Jerry becomes
continuing the argument about the bench just to make Peter to fight for it:
Jerry: Fight for it, then. Defend yourself; defend your bench.
Peter: [still angry] Yes, like a man, if you insist on mocking me even
further.
Jerry: I’ll have to give you credit for one thing: you are vegetable.
To fulfil his goal, Jerry forces Peter to kill him, which will, for Jerry,
prove that he will objectify Peter from his subjectivity through his own
commands. So, Jerry throws a knife in front of Peter, who grabs it to defend
himself, yet Jerry impales himself on the knife. Jerry: “So be it![With a rush
he charges Peter and impales himself on the knife. Tableau: For just one
moment, complete silence, Jerry impaled on the knife at the end of Peter’s
still firm arm. Then Peter screams, pulls away, leaving the knife in Jerry.
Jerry is motionless, on point] (Albee, 1959:413).
Tobias’s house. As for Julia, the daughter of Agnes and Tobias, she faces
despair in her marriage, like her parents, and ends up in their home in
depression. So the play focuses on the failures in the relationships between
the members of a family. It “centres on people’s pretence that their empty
relationships with others are really meaningful” (Skyes, 1973:450). Albee
demonstrates the lack of communication and alienation in the family
regardless of the fact that the members are convinced that they have a
blissful life.
Agnes: If they knew what it was like …to be a wife; a mother; a lover;
a homemaker; a nurse; a hostess, an agitator, a pacifier; a truth teller, a
deceiver…
While Agnes tries to verify her roles to the people around her, the
others take the stance of indifference towards Agnes. Since she has
uncertainties about her identity, she expects the others to confirm it with the
aim of making life more tolerable for her.
Besides, Agnes believes that she has the responsibility of holding the
family together and preserving the “delicate balance”:
Agnes: I shall … keep this family in shape. I shall maintain it; hold it.
Julia: [sarcastic salute, not rising though] Yes, sir. (Albee, 1966:48)
However, the more Agnes practises her authority on the others, the
more the rest of the family ignore her. While she expects to be obeyed, the
others just mock at her or simply not listen. Her efforts of being recognised
by the Other turns out to be a meaningless attempt. She says: “[some
irritation toward both of them] There is a balance to be maintained, after all,
though the rest of you teeter, unconcerned or uncaring, assuming you’re on
level ground … by divine right, I gather, though that is hardly so” (Albee,
1966:48).
Agnes: I wish you would! If you had talked to Tom, or Charlie, yes!
Even Charlie. (Albee, 1966:23)
Another strategy Agnes uses to prove her existence and attain reaction
is through dramatising her situation. The play begins and ends with Agnes’s
assumptions that she will become mad one day. Anita Maria Stenz states that
Agnes is “not literally threatened with insanity and doesn’t want to go mad,
rather she’s attracting attention to her unhappiness” (qtd. in Pero, 2006:175).
Sartrean Look In The Zoo Story And A Delicate Balance 107
While she is speculating that one day she will lose her sanity, Tobias does
not show the exact reaction she has expected; instead, he just undermines
what she has said:
Agnes: What I find most astonishing – aside from that belief of mine,
[crosses D.L. to sofa]
which never ceases to surprise me by the very fact of its surprising
lack of unpleasantness, the belief that I might very easily- as they say-
lose my mind one day, not that I suspect I am about to, or am even …
nearby…
Tobias: [He speaks somewhat the same way] There is no saner woman
on earth, Agnes.
…
We will all go mad before you. The anisette. (Albee, 1966:7)
Therefore, Agnes cannot achieve what Jerry is able to in the The Zoo
Story. As nobody has reacted to her, Agnes cannot fulfil her existential aim;
108 Gül Büyü
that is, to attain to be the subject in the Other’s eye. She remains in her
object position owing to the indifferent attitudes of the people around her.

(sprachliche) Überleben, ein „Sich-Retten-Können“, ganz pragmatisch also:
viel Wert gelegt. In diesem Zusammenhang waren literarische Texte
dynamischer, offener Prozess verstanden (vgl. Esselborn, 2003: 481). Dabei
Theoretische Grundlagen Der Fremdsprachlichen Literaturdidaktik 119
Fremdsprachliche literarische
Texte können im Unterricht Begeisterung, Engagement und Identifikation
Theoretische Grundlagen Der Fremdsprachlichen Literaturdidaktik 121
(mit Personen, Situationen, Ideen) schaffen. Sie gehen damit über die
didaktischen Qualitäten von Sachtexten weit hinaus (Müller-Peisert, 2006:
120f.).

Knapp, 1996: 149).
Sekundarstufe I oder II behandeln.

Probanden eindeutige Differenzen aufweisen.

Schreiblehrprozess bestimmte Vertextungsstrategien erforderlich.
In diesem Kontext
kategorisieren, kritisieren, vermuten, in Beziehung setzten,

In

anaerkil toplum denilen sistemler oldu.

Abstract/Özet which should be centred and written in 11 point font,
bold and italic type. Abstracts should be single-spaced and written in
10 point font, italic type, and should not exceed 150 words.
10. Abstracts should also present 8 keywords (identifying the content of
the work) both in Turkish and in English or in the language of the
text. The first letter of each keyword should be capitalised.
11. The subheadings in the body of the text should be written in 11
point font, bold type with the first letter of each word capitalised.
12. For in-text citations, author-date style is used, i.e. the author’s
surname, date and page number of the source are given in brackets
in the body of the text (e.g. Uygur, 1985:20). Author’s notes should
be numbered and placed at the end of the relevant page as footnotes.
If the cited work has more than one author, for the first citation all
the authors’ surnames should be written before date and page
number (e.g. Uygur, Sunay and Kutlu, 1986:25). If the same work is
cited again, only the first author’s surname and “et al.” are used (e.g.
Uygur, et al., 1986:25).
13. Short quotations (of less than 40 words) should be enclosed in
double quotation marks, and incorporated into the text (e.g. “…”).
Longer quotations (of more than 40 words) should start on a new
line (without quotation marks) in block format, with each line
indented 2 cms from the left margin, and with double-spacing
between the quote and the surrounding text. Longer quotations
should be written in 10 point font.
14. The References section should begin on a new page and be
organised alphabetically.
15. The References section should start with the author’s surname (in
uppercase letters), then a comma and then the author’s first name (in
lowercase with the first letter capitalised). In the case of multiple
authors, the order is reversed for the second, third, etc. authors, with
the first name in lowercase letters (with the first letter capitalised)
coming ahead of the surname in lowercase (with the first letter
capitalised).
16. All sources cited in the manuscript should be included in the
References section.
17. Material not cited in the manuscript should not be included in the
References section.
18. The References list should be written as in the examples below.
